    What a strange thing to do...

    Why don't they just cut the retention period anyway, and then crow about how they have a shorter data retention period than any of their competitors... Some privacy conscious users might push their market share above the pitiful 2%.

    It's not often I say this, but Microsoft have a point. Interesting to see if this segues into pressure on Google and Yahoo.

    Hmmm...

    There must be something to Google's claims. Otherwise, anonymising data would be a competitive advantage to MS with those people who want to be anonymous on the internet. So if they want the other guys to sign on first, the competitive advantages of not-anonymising must be greater.
