back to article Plymouth nurse punted panties on eBay

A Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) hearing yesterday considered the case of a Plymouth nurse who punted clean and soiled underwear on eBay while on duty at the city's Derriford Hospital, the local Herald reports. Sheena McMillan, 24, in April 2007 set up a listing entitled 'naughty knicks' with the username Sheena66c. It …

Was this so they didn't have pay the £25 for the pre probed ones? Nice to see them saving tax payers money.

Paris because I am sure she is happy to have her inbox probed.

    proportionate

Has anyone been harmed by the action?

Has anyone been harmed by the nurses inaction? - ie suffered because she was doing this rather than nursing.

    Has she done other offenses?

Assuming 'No's I would say let her off with a warning/ slap wrist and everyone moves on.

£25 for a pair of smelly knickers I can understand (if that's your thing) but £20 for clean ones?

For anyone looking for a bargain...

...You can buy my boxers for the bargain price of £12 (+ postage)

£15 if you want a clean pair.

I can also do socks- £10 a pair. I have athlete's foot. I'm not sure if that makes them worth more?

selling knickers = bad at being a nurse

Selling knickers does not made her any less able to do her job! ews she was wrong to do it on office equipment and email, she should get a serious telling off and mark against her, but not blacklisted as I'm sure she is very good at her job

    "serious, unresolved health issues"

I hope the NMC is refering to the items tendered for auction, rather than insinuating calumnies in a case about the use of work computers for private purposes. Bodily orifices are all in a day's work, should the NMC care to recall. Far more harm has been done in my experience from breaches of confidentiality - yes, including consultant physicians - which occur far more frequently, and with apparent impunity.

A sense of proportionality is in order. Anyone posting "think of the children" should have a certain evacuative medical procedure performed on them if necessary to induce it.

Defenetly one to be watched in future, she may have some offensive porn, going on the sex offenders register should sort her out.

Proof that the NHS doesn't pay enough?

I dunno, these poor nurses, so under paid they're forced to sell their undies on eBay.

    Damn Facebook

I feel your pain. Having checked, I will now never be able to buy used nurse's knickers online, even if I wanted to. Damn Facebook spoiled all that potential indulgence. I will have to stick to getting the knickers of(f) the *hot* nurses I actually know for free.

Facebook is bad for the economy.

Quote: "the facts ... clearly have the potential to bring the nursing profession into disrepute.."

Whoa! Isn't sexy lingerie under a starched uniform *exactly* what most people - most blokes in IT, anyway - expect from the nursing profession?

But in this particular case, the nurse in question was too stupid to realise that email in general - and work email in particular - is a megaphone and that she was bound to get fingered by some PFY (no sniggering at the back). On balance, would YOU want someone that stupid dolling out medication or sticking needles in you?

  30. Sceptical Bastard

    On second thoughts...

The Sun (a sort of newspaper for non-UK readers) has a picture here for us non-Facebookers:

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article1863250.ece

Despite my jibes (comments, above), I feel rather sorry for her. She's obviously disturbed (hence the referral of her case to the health committee), probably none too bright, and sadly lacking in the porn-star appeal I imagine her potential, er, 'customers' would expect.

    Nurse ... the screens!

Can you imagine taking an 'old-fashioned' Matron around a modern hospital?

    "This is the Nurses' Station."

    "What's that for?"

It's where the nurses stand around when they're not looking after patients."

"What do you mean 'not looking after patients'? That's their job!"

"Well, it's where they run their sidelines on eBay."

    Rat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat-a-tat

(Sound of Matron using her Uzi on the nurses)

On a more serious note ...

Can we assume from this that having been rumbled and suspended by her employer, for either non-work activities or disrepute, she is now pleading absence through sickness, which means that she has been off work on full pay since April 2007.

Once again the NHS lodges itself in a cleft stick. Having suspended her pending the NMC hearing, before starting the internal disciplinary procedure, they now find she is pleading illness to avoid the disciplinary action, which means that they can't sack her for absence, because she is suspended and they can't sack her without going through the disciplinary procedure which they can't do because she is sick.

It's not a medical condition that might be affecting this woman's judgment that needs checking, it's whatever medical condition affected those responsible for her appointment in the first place.

It was they, not this "nurse", who brought the "profession" into disrepute by employing an individual of so obviously minimal IQ it's a wonder she could even tell one end of a thermometer from another.

Dysfunctional sleaze-bags must presumably have a place somewhere (perhaps alongside Brand, Woss and Gervais) but not in an environment where life, death, trauma and tragedy are the order of the day. Ensuring this cretin never works again as a nurse will be a good thing -- ensuring that those who appointed her don't work again either will be even better.
