    WTF... Why do people use this?

    $0.26 per GB - that not cheaper than ordering a VM from a hosting provider at flat rate and using it as a NAS in the cloud.

    Yeah, I know, scalability, availability, cloudy, trendy, beardy, yadda, yadda. With sprinkles on top.

    However most people do not need that and a VM running a NAS service hooked up to the backends of whatever front-end is in use will be more than sufficient.

      First off the rate is actually $0.026 and secondly you're comparing the multi-region rate with a single instance. The value you should be using is $0.02

      So it's about 15 times cheaper than a hosted VM, more reliable and less effort to maintain. As well as the other stuff you mention.

      #DecimalPlacesMatter $0.026 not $0.26.

      And the cost of IT operations resources to manage that VM and NAS service?

      Also, how do you know most people don't need this? Businesses now have terabytes of data and costly on premise storage systems.
