    WTF?

So can I use these names Dad?

How about I rename my passage to SkyRect, is that OK?

Or how about I rename my GF to SkyReceiver, is that OK?

Or can I rename my pet inflatable love toy to SkyPorn?

Sky is just a word and B.S. like this really gets my pip.

How much would it stand in a court?

Sky is a common name like windows (and quite probably mankind created a word for sky before one for windows...). I can't see how they could enforce its use. I'm just sorry MS didn't stand Murdoch claims and brought it to court.

If they'd given it a bit of thought they could have counter-sued on the basis that Sky infringed on Skype.

When in a legal case you would support MS you know they are dealing with evil.

Other way around, I'm afraid, Sky sued Microsoft over the Sky in Skype and Microsoft lost! That was 2015, not sure what's happening now though as Skype shows not signs of changing its name.

You may have noticed that Skype is still called Skype and indeed, Lync is now Skype for Business. I think you mean Sky sued Microsoft over Skydrive, which is now Onedrive.

Sky uses Cielo already in Italy as the name of its DVB-T channel <G>. Maybe one day here Murdoch will sue the Pope for the exclusive rights to it (in Italian "cielo" also means "heavens").

Why don't MS just shut down Sky?

As they actually have so much money*, surely they could find a way to bankrupt Sky, or even better News International.

I hate this world. I don't think I will hear a more ridiculous thing for the remainder of 2016.

    Now what?

So. what are we supposed to say when we look out of our Windows (tm) and stare up to the lovely blue Sky (tm)

In both cases, there is plenty of prior art of standard dictionary words before the legal cancer get hold of the idea its exclusively theirs.

Sounds to me like the patents and trademarks world needs a complete reboot with a good dose of common sense applied.
