In that case, investors paid zero attention to the industry and the business and made all their decisions based on recent numbers.
Don't make beancounters the decision-makers.

But these numbers are supposedly in the context of cloud(tm) processing, so...
...we're looking at ~45GB/month uploads, just for social media. For automobiles, we're looking at ~2.4TB/hour, let's say for two hours/day, for 20 days/month, which comes to ~48TB/month of uploads.
Are ISPs going to be able to provide that sort of bandwidth per user at an affordable price within four years?

Very likely in its own sensors, but almost bugger-all of that will be hauled back to the cloud as the radio bandwidth is simply not available for the huge number of cars in most cities (along will all of those trying to use youtube on mobiles, etc).
Sure they might sell CPUs for on-board processing but most likely it will be ARM for lower power and cost if the car companies have anything to say about it.
I agree, and can't see the sense in uploading the raw data, but that was the context in which those numbers were quoted.
But why would Intel's CEO say such a thing?
Making such an unprompted and implausible claim tells us something important about the state of things at Intel.
It has the flavour of trying to be reassuring, but then why would Intel feel that they need to reassure unless they feel threatened?

How much data does an F1 race car generate? How much is actually kept?
That might help get a more accurate figure.
Do we ned to keep every reading of say the tye pressure sensors when we really only need a snapshot when someding goes outside pre-defined limits.
There are obvious 'dataholics' in charge of the people who come up with these guestimates. Perhaps they need to be chopped off at the head first?
The only way those figures make sense is if you lump all the intra- as well internet-work traffic flows generated by and about a user. Hell, just ads let alone the other beefy parts of every page make for some hefty totals. Then it makes sense.
Someone else took care of the autonomous vehicle issue(s).
FFS, what are these people on?
Oh, btw Mr Intel, how did WiMax work out for you?
Or any of your other non-x86 ventures?
Or even x86 in non-traditional markets (mobile x86 - unsellable even with ~$100 per system "contra revenue").
They'll be OK for a while though, especially if Softbank's efforts muddy the waters for the future of ARM.
