When I hear that Erdogan wants to fire EVERY university Dean in the country (about 1700 in all), I have to believe that this crackdown has crossed the line from being an attempt to round up actual coup - plotters to becoming a purge of anyone who is not devoted to Erdogan's rule. Plus of course if you can replace the academic leadership with your loyalists, then you have a much better chance of influencing future generations.
So much for Turkey being an example of a Middle Eastern democracy. Maybe Tunisia can hold things together.
