back to article NASA's stadium-sized sandwich bag overflies Oz

The NASA Super Pressure Balloon (SPB) which lifted off from New Zealand earlier this week is heading for the open Indian Ocean, having traversed the south of Australia. According to the handy tracking map, the mighty orb and its payload were earlier today travelling west at an altitude of 108,970ft (around 33,220m). The …

Presumably there's a choice of sandwich filling; cat or kangaroo.

        I'll get my coat.

My girlfriend said that when raw they smell like penis. Take from that what you will.

    1000 Cats.

4.5Kgs is quite heavy for a domestic moggy being the upper end of the range. Did they specify a particular breed?

      Well, fat cats, obviously.

Hmmm, gives me an idea regarding certain pension stealers 'wealth creators'. What, we've run out of parachutes you say, shame...

Really? Three of my six are well over that (the senior male, the big ginger and the senior female). Only one of them could be considered fat.

The other two are just big. And have lots of muscles.

    No big deal, they're everywhere

Judging by the changes in volume those things undergo, I've seen loads of these! Small, white balloon like things strewn about the car park, yea?

Re: No big deal, they're everywhere

Doubt that it was a lighter-than-air gas filling those ones, however. Did you check?

    No need to fear?

Whether 2.5 tons free falls or parachutes gently onto my house, I still don't expect to have an abode after the event.

      Re: No need to fear?

A fair point. From our own high-altitude ballooning experience, a payload under a parachute will generally come down at 5m/sec. If you want slower, then the size of chute becomes impractically large.
