I sailed a week aboard the HM Bark (Not HMS) Endeavour as voyage crew in 1998. That was the coolest experience of my whole life. You can take that to mean I've lived a boring life if you like. I submit that helming a tall ship under sail, silvered in the light of the full moon sparkling on the water is a rare opportunity not to be forgotten. If you ever have such a chance, take it!

Yep, she was built to haul coal. Cook chose the vessel due to its large cargo space and stable sailing characteristics. Sailing long distances into uncharted waters meant he wanted to be well-supplied.
