Sadly you are required to allow admin access to install Flash on a OSX based system, to create a daemon to check for updates.
Hence that is why savvy users take it off their shiny Macs.
In their defense they are not the only vendors doing it.
Yev from Backblaze here -> The data was being deleted from Mac user's drives, not Backblaze drives. Also Backblaze user's backups were not affected, just a Backblaze file on the drive.
Can I just give a thumbs-up to Blackbaze for keeping their customers informed? Many places would try and sweep it under the carpet or ignore the issue because it was caused by someone else.
Yet again Backblaze makes me thankful that I am a customer!
somewhere in the adobe update code, were commands that said something like - "delete first directory in the root". The name apparently didn't matter.
That is either some kind of monstrous assumption that an Adobe directory would be the first directory no matter what, or, it is a blatantly stoopid insert into the update code and nobody saw it. Either way, how did it get past QA? Seriously? And, yes, I know using Adobe and QA in the same sentence is an oxymoron. :-)
I know, right? It's difficult to imagine how they managed that one. In any normal situation they should know exactly the name of the folder they want to delete, and picking the first folder alphabetically sounds like it would be more work than using its name. The only explanation that half makes sense is if it was testing code that accidentally went live. But even than it was really poor. I almost wonder if it was sabotage.

Because there are too many clueless ones who can't see beyond their nose and believe the whole world is identical to their dev machine. The more they target your OS, the more havoc you risk.
Windows underwent that earlier than others, but there is nothing safe.
