    .la really isn't Laos anymore

    Its supposed to be, but it got sold to CentralNIC and is used primarily to make stupid looking domain names and advertise crap in Los Angeles. The Laotian government has very little, if any, control over the TLD since around 2006. Same thing has happened to .fm and .tv, when was the last time you saw a domain that ended in fm that had anything to do with Micronesia?

    What about countries that hate the USA?

    I'm surprised no pirate site operators have looked at countries like Iran (.ir) or North Korea (.kp), since both of these countries would love a chance to hoist a middle finger to the US and its globalist copyright regime. Iran in particular openly pirates Windows in its government offices and its universities and schools have proudly declared their use of infringing copies of Western textbooks and software.

    And while both regimes are highly censorious, they could readily block access to the pirate domains to their own citizens while giving the rest of the world free access to them. If the pirates spin it as enabling corruption and decadence to undermine the "Great Satan" as well as highlighting the damage it would do to Western economies these countries would be on board like a shot.

    It's always easy enough to find copyright infringing stuff on the internet at the well known address 8.8.8.8

    I'm pretty sure it's a big pirate site, otherwise why would they have a "pieces of eight" IP address?

      Most Swiss Cheese (the stuff with the holes in it) does not smell.

      Now if you had said a well ripened Tomme De Savoir then I would agree with you. I've even seen one removed from the cabin of a plane because of the frankly rank sweaty feet odor that permutates from the thing.

      Tastes good though.

    Simplest thing would be to pass legislation using eminant domain to nationalise it, then the state - as owner - could do what it wanted with it. FSVO "simplest" of course.

    Hilarious!

    Here's a big f**king clue for you government types who really do want to get on top of this pirate malarky. You need to start seeing the world running at the speed at which you can fire up a new domain and switch your servers to it. That's how fast you need to make the legal systems. Here's an even bigger clue, just in case you're wondering we're talking a few hours in the very worst case!!

    You're stuck with legal systems that take months to come to a decision and then weeks to enact by which time the naughty boys and girls have seen you coming a mile off and have made preparations to move on. The Pirate Bay, KickAss, 720 and their ilk can chop and change servers, IPs and host names in minutes if they need to. Of course this doesn't even begin to discuss the huge explosion of torrent proxy sites that constantly scan and change within minutes each time the master sites change.

    Unless you can start to make laws and enact them in less than 2 hours....you're royally screwed!

        Don't underestimate their ability to get round this. Look at the laws they've introduced, which make designer drugs which haven't even been created yet illegal.

    "Du kan inte fly, pirater!" <- Incorrect

    It's either one of the below:

    "Ni kan inte fly, pirater!"

    "Du kan inte fly, pirat!"

    "ni" is "you" in plural (you-all).

    "du" is "you" in singular.

    "pirat" is one "pirate", and "pirater" is several "pirates".

    But it was a good effort, nevertheless.
