back to article Tits and ads: Malware-riddled banners stiff X-rated websites

An ongoing malvertising campaign that began in August by targeting Yahoo.com, MSN.com and other websites visited by millions of people has expanded to hit smut sites as well. Many porn websites have been fingered with tainted advertisements via an ad network called TrafficHaus, a big player in supplying ads to adult networks …

That's why I browse all my porn on Linux

Er, I mean, I find that offensive!

Occasionally, I think about turning off Adblock to support various sites.. and then we hear of these attack vectors again and often hitting legitimate sites. My mind quickly changes...

El Reg... can we get a donate button for those of us running Adblocker? I worry that it's possible you could get a malvertiser.

As an Adblock user I regularly donate to sites I find of value where the option is available.

El Reg would definitely get some of my money.

It's a shame that the advertising model of supporting websites is so broken as it could work well.

But it is broken and I don't see a fix coming soon.

Gimme an option to lighten my wallet please...

    2. Thought About IT

I thought sites could pay Adblock to allow advertisements through. That's why I use uBlock Origin.

    Good idea

Yes, do put up a donate button.

And especially before some malware ad includes a 'Donate' button.

Could you post a list of sites that were compromised. Er, just so I can check that they're OK now (obviously).

    Some people.

People actually look at the ads on those sites?

    xHamsters

Have to say I'm intrigued. Not enough to visit, but why is that a good name for a porn site?

  11. x 7

yesterday xHamster had a popup which locked tbe browser until you paid a one bitcoin fine.......usual cleaning techniques removed it quickly enough

Very amateurish attack - just a plain badly written text box (no graphics) which stated it only affected Google Chrome

IE? For porn? What are you stupid?!?!?

Seriously, porn sites (along with warez sites, and some streaming video sites) have the seediest advertising available. I would just assume if you went there with Windows + IE you'd be pwned, multiple times per page.

How the heck did they managed to slip this on xHamster? They along with Pornhub and Fapshows.com were the most secure site online. So they found a way to hack these too. This doesn't sound right.
