back to article Fiorina threatens to get in McCain's antique cabinet

Having turned HP into a model of consistency . . . Having morphed HP into a no-nonsense juggernaut . . . Having guided HP through the smoothest mega-merger in history . . . Er, okay. How about - Having rubbed out the Hewlett-Packard brand, the HP Way and HP's competitive position against IBM and Dell, Carly Fiorina would now …

    Spelling Mistake

"Carly Fiorina would now like to lend her insight gained about running large organizations and alienating as many people as possible to the White House."

    Should read:

"Carly Fiorina would now like to lend her insight gained about ruining large organizations and alienating as many people as possible to the White House."

    Not just HP --

Lucent was doing pretty badly under her "management", too.

    Re: Spelling Mistake

Well... She is probably late to the party as she should have served with the current administration. In fact I suspect that the current administration can actually teach her on how to be more efficient in her favourite trade.

    I weep for HP.

But there is always the remote chance that they may earn back some of the respect that they once enjoyed.

    Well, that should hurt ...

... McSame's success as President, should enough 'Murkans decide that they want yet another Old White Man in the White House.

But it could paradoxically help him get there in the first place. It's one of the many ironies of 'Murkan politics that your persona is much more important than your actual track record. And afaik, Fiorina has made good with the self-promotion gig.

    Safe bet

She's on to a sure thing there. Plenty of publicity, and zero chance of actually being asked to serve by a Democrat administration, so no loss of face.

Unless the electorate really are so clueless as to return another Republican president.

Let's face it, if she's SecEd when the Cylons invade, she'll end up President, and no one wants that.

    Prison Break

Does Ms Fiorina remind anyone else of Caroline Reynolds - the evil Vice President character from Prison Break?

    Warrantless wiretapping anyone?

We don't even need to ask which side of the warrantless surveillance, FISA, retrospective immunity, Department of Fatherland Security debate Carly is on do we? Maybe this is her way of getting back at those damn pesky journos...

Seriously though, I think Carly 'helping' the republicans is exactly what the world needs, if she can bring her unique brand of internal demotivation and external image destruction to bear on the republicans and the evil that is the PNAC then poor Bill Gates is going to have his work cut out doing anything like as much good for the world...

Hurd showed how badly Fiorina performed @ HP

Mark Hurd turned the HP ship around from day one. Slashed money-loosing divisions and concentrating focus on products with healthy margins and services. Actions Fiorina should have done years earlier. It does not look good for her candidature.

    What am I missing?

Bearing in mind all she seems to be capable of are monumental fuck ups, why is she being considered for anything at all?

    Actually, Carly's right.

She did set Hurd up for victory. Her performance was so poor, so execrable that not only could a competent successor succeed merely by showing up and not screwing up, if he had any ability at all, he'd look terrific by comparison. She lowered expectations to the point that anything that didn't look like bumbling incompetence would seem brilliant. Kind of like George W. Bush and whoever replaces him.

    Three words: "Heckuva job, Brownie."

This is Republican politics. Failure is the new success.

    Let's just hope Obama wins.

If That Woman manages to get to a position of authority then the US (and by extension the rest of us) will be treated in the same way as, from personal experience, she treated customers.

Only saving grace might be to keep her paws off screwing up business.

Hell's teeth, there must be some people of merit in the US to avoid having to scrape the barrel.

    Fiorina's history

George W Bush was a lousy oil man but that didn't keep him from being president of the US.

It is more important to have the right ideology than competancy.

    @Bruce Jackson

    Says who?

    Gordon Brown?

    Considering Sam

She's not being 'considered', she's blowing her own trumpet and angling for a job. I think McCain has more sense than to appoint such a publicly-failed figure to any job. The sheer arrogance of the woman is shown into stark relief.

    Oh well

Oh well , with that lot elected to the oval office Zimbabwe/Wiemar Republic style hypersonic stagflation will rage out of control as McCook falls asleep at the wheel on the very first day after being inducted into the P.O.T.U.S office !

Undoubtedly quite a few mushroom clouds will start dotting the landscape soon after , what an interesting choice of an even greater number of pigs at the feeding trough indeed !

    Not only that...

"Having rubbed out the Hewlett-Packard brand, the HP Way and HP's competitive position against IBM and Dell..."

Not only is her sterling record at HP on the line, we must not forget her running Lucent into the ground whilst engaging in *cough*dodgy accounting*cough* to hide the red ink.
