back to article Startup BlueData in the green after pocketing millions from Intel et al

Big data startup BlueData has to get bigger pockets; it’s just trousered $20m in C-round funding from Intel Capital, existing investors and a secret strategic investor. That takes total funding to a modest far-from-unicorn-status $38m and the cash will be used to “accelerate our momentum in the Big Data market.” The company …

    Money for nothing...

    Sorry, but really?

Millions for building dynamic compute clusters?

Hmmm. can you say AWS already solved this?

So you could do this in your own DC...

If you're new to Hadoop, you may not know that the majority of Hadoop deployments today are running on bare-metal "in your own DC". The traditional model for large distributed workloads like Hadoop is to purchase commodity hardware, then install the software on dedicated servers and operate it in your own DC.

And although AWS does have an offer (EMR) for Hadoop-as-a-Service in the cloud, many organizations don't want to move massive volumes of data into a public cloud service - for reasons of governance, security, privacy, and "data gravity" (i.e. the cost and resources required to move or copy data from where it resides).

Thus the need for an on-premises option with dynamic compute clusters for Hadoop. It's a game changer.

        You missed the point.

You could implement an AWS like solution in your own data center.

You must be new to Hadoop.

I'm posting anon for a reason.

        This is a non event.
