Google gives each version of Android the name of a sweet and also advances each new Android by one letter of the alphabet. Hence Android's current version is Lolliop, …

    "Marshallow"

Bland, soft, cloying, unsubstantial, can't take the heat without falling apart, and easy to poke holes in.

Is Google trying to tell us something?

Unsurprisingly, this made me think of all the UK political partys manifestos at the last election.

Well, they were thinking of calling it Marathon, but they got Snickered.

You won't need to poke holes, I imagine this:

“new permissions model that streamlines the app install and update process.”

to mean that, there's going to be a permission called "Your Phone", which grants access to everything on the phone, you either accept it and install it, or don't...

What kind of sweets do you eat that are "Mackerel" flavoured ? I'll make a small wager that they are not very popular...

          "Mackerel?"

          Mydog'sfarts?

Note: I'm deliberately ignoring the part about it being named for sweets ;)

Re: Well, it could have been worse....

I wouldn't consider Marmite or Mayonnaise confectionery, perhaps more suitably malware if we ignore the confectionery naming convention.

      Shamelessly stolen from internet.

      Cupcake

      Donut

      Eclair

      Froyo

      Gingerbread

      Honeycomb

      Ice Cream Sandwich

      Jelly Bean

      KitKat

      Lollipop

      Marshmallow

I'm trying to think of a sweet beginning with Z.

Google's got plenty of time to think one up though.

Zonkers (as in Screaming Yellow). Sadly I don't think they're made any more...

Zubes? More of a lozenge really. But technically still a sweet.

Does anyone remember Zegazoids? They were a sort of lime and liquorice abomination.

I would have gone for Marzipan, but that's just nuts!

      Re: Alternatively...

You jest - but actually I reckon that's a far better name.

      Google must be kicking themselves.

    Marshmallow kernel...

...meets Amazon Fire - don't leave it there too long, could have unwanted results.

    Commercial deal fell through then?

They could have had Mars Bar, Malteasers or Milky Way just by talking to one company.

Unless the KitKat deal came with a no-compete clause from Nestle.

Is there need to mention the not as yet existing company Alphabet every time Google is mentioned?

    Next

The next version after Marshmallow will probably be Nougat. Soft and sticky and full of nuts. However since they are now called Alphabet, they may just call it 7.0 or Roger. :-)

    > previous version was Key Lime Pie

Fuck the branding crap with KitKat. Fuck Hershey and their suing Cadbury over KitKat imports so that none of the British candy shops around here can stock decent candy.

The only "customer confusion" was that Americans would discover is that Cadbury KitKats don't taste like motor oil due to the PGPR (polyglycerol polyricinoleate) which is the cheap cocoa butter substitute that Hersheys uses.

That's typical of American made crap and the "American way". Use a cheap substitute and sue people who complain.

Yet another reason I'm totally ashamed of being American.

    1. Duffy Moon

      Re: FTFY

The funny thing is that even as a Brit I won't eat Cadbury chocolate because there's so little actual chocolate in it (and far too much sugar - ugh!).
