If OKed by the French constitutional council, the new law will allow spies to use International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) catchers, also known as Stingrays, to hoover up telephone data and to access emails and online communications of anyone suspected of being linked to terrorism without a court order.

Because you need a court order in order to be legally linked to terrorism.

Does that really translate as "Sophie in the Field" (with a Yorkshire accent)?

      Yes.

The word veld (Dutch pronunciation: [fɛlt]) comes from the Afrikaans word for 'field'.

The etymological origin is older Dutch veldt, a spelling that the Dutch abandoned in favour of veld during the 19th century, decades before the first Afrikaans dictionary.

Another example of Belgian 'yorkshireness' is Sint-Job-in-'t-Goor village in Antwerp province, where t'goor is "the grime"

When it comes down to it, Engels (English)/Dutch (Duits) are dialects of bad old German, with a bit of Danish thrown-in for fun!

Theres a Dunglish website for some more obtuse research, http://www.dunglish.nl, as I feel I cannot comment on what Sophie is actually on about, other than to guess, like GCHQ, that the new French law is probably just a CYA for something that they've accidentally been doing for years, as COM usually knows the actualité.
