    FU UK?

"$9.99/month in the USA, £9.99/month in the UK"

      Re: FU UK?

Typical of IT pricing, I'm afraid. Although the UK price includes VAT where the US price does not. Still doesn't overcome the exchange rate...

        Re: FU UK?

Sales tax is 0 - 9.45% in the US. VAT is 20% in the UK and already included. $10 + 1ish = 11USD, todays rate gets you about 7GBP.

Worst case in US: ~£7. Hmm, that seems fair.

    it's a speaker

Availability is determined by the audio in cable, not an app.

      @PleebSmash

Sonos speakers don't have an input cable, they're network play only.

        But the Sonos Connect does.

    BBC radio

Shame they can't be bothered getting BBC radio working properly again. Live streams have been the crappy low bit rate mp3 ones (with no sport) and iplayer has been completely dead since feb. As usual sonos are too cool to bother telling anyone when they might bother to fix it.

Oh well, at least it was cheap....oh wait

      WTF?

      Re: BBC radio

Er, what iplayer is that? People on the Sonos forums have been asking for iPlayer for years, to no avail.

Agreed though that Sonos need to sort out live BBC radio, it's been broken for months with no indication of when they will support the HLS streams. Naim have just announced a fix for their system, now Sonos need to catch up. There are a lot of unhappy listeners on their forum:

Support for BBC Radio HLS Streams

        Re: BBC radio

It used to work through tunein. It WAS wildly unreliable and the search didn't really work but it was there. The BBC in their infinite wisdom decided to wrap those in hls as well so they don't work at all now. By the sounds of it they are going to move to dash soon anyway and all this can start again.

    Perfect partnership

Lazy shoppers everywhere rejoicing that inferior default goto devices have teamed up to offer an inferior default goto music service.

    Match made in Hell

    Sonos a bitch....

El Reg obsession with Sonos continues apace. Other networky speakery things are available, and some of them will be cooler / more technically interesting / better sounding than the somewhat dated Sonos lineup. Perhaps the others don't dole out free kit to web journos.

Same old Apple: 20% of the music

Apple is not selling you ALL of the music, just a few percent, the rest is omitted. The album you bought in CD form had 400MB of data, the Apple file has around 80MB at most. That's a bargain only for the tin-eared prole. MP3s weren't good enough for Steve Jobs, he had a great vinyl system. He never told customers that, did he?

      ALAC

Apple has a lossless format called ALAC that supports quality levels far higher than CD (up to 384 KHz sample rate) You need to buy the music via iTunes to get it, pretty sure it won't be streamed, but then I doubt Spotify etc. will stream you lossless music either.

        Re: ALAC

Yes, but Sonos doesn't even support 24/96.

By the end of the year?

Whoa, slow down Sonos, you'll break something </sarcasm>

Available on Sonos today... if you want it!

Take the audio out of an Apple Airport Express (or any AirPlay supported device) and connect to the line-in on a Sonos Connect or Sonos Amp. Voila!

I believe this article should more accurately indicate that Sonos will natively support Apple Music in its app by the end of the year.
