    Or put it another way: that's a $600 software licence cost for each 4TB disk you buy, plus annual maintenance, and that doesn't count the server hardware to put them in.

    Sorry, how is this ZFS competition?

    ZFS per se isn't a cluster filesystem nor does it provide object storage. It's a local filesystem, raid and volume management combined. What am I missing?

      I think it means competition *from* ZFS for the other object-store platforms, since Nexenta seem a ZFS-centric outfit, as opposed to this being a competitor to ZFS.
