back to article MEPs: Oi, Juncker! Hands off our science and research dosh

MEPs are pushing back against European Commission plans to slash science funding. Commish president Jean-Claude Juncker wanted to remove €2.7 billion from the €80bn budget of Horizon 2020, but according to science groups including the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences, the League of European Research …

Perhaps Juncker could reallocate some of the €906bn cash the EU spends on "aid"?

Most of which goes to middle income countries, according to MPs, while children are drowning in the Med:

Apologies for the Huffington link. The EU could spend our money a lot better.

Well, "children are drowning in the Med" because YuropNATO unleashed a few hundred cruise missiles and "a no-flight zone" over certain countries. That apparently cost only 1.1 billion though. Cheap, if one disregards blowback into Mali, which blew back into Libya, which blows back into Italy.

The cesspool of lefty retardation that is Huff&Puff post should SHUT THE FUCK UP, too, because of liberventionist bullcrap like this: "Four months later, and the efforts Clinton spearheaded can now be declared a success." I guess the rimming will increase as the harpie is zeroing in on the presidency of Team America.

He's a "catholic-socialist conservative" and has been politician like forever and been around the block a bit, has had his 5-minute moments of smooth talking but it's time top ride into the sunset now, he's fully out of his depth. The recent blather about wanting to "reindustrialize europe" (by decree?) shows a sad lack of understanding of economic realities, while the ECB money printers and the Obama fellators and Euro-Centralizers who are setting the switches of an insane policy on the borderlands of Russia are currently erasing any prospect of reindustrialization with extreme prejudice.

Putting the JUNK back in Juncker

He should never have been there in the first place. The only thing the Brussels sprouts can agree on is to raise taxes, invent "programs" that cost us money, the correct curvature of bananas and cucumbers, and banning devices that actually help us.

Seems like they're in business to put us OUT of business.

Maybe they should take some of the CAGW funding they're using to solve a nonexistent problem and shovel it toward research.

Better yet, return it to us, with interest.

Er, wait, that would be zero percent......

Maybe we should fix that too.....bye-bye druggie, er, Draghi.....

    Typical Brussels

Set up a strategic investment group funded by money taken from scientific research. Group decides that best strategic investment would be scientific research. Net result? Scientific research loses funding to the amount of a few bureaucrats salaries plus expenses, lots of paper pushed around, lots of lunches consumed and very little else.

Having been involved in some EU-funded 'research' projects, I worry that most of research funds are already spent on computer hardware, plane tickets, hotel bills and administrator salaries. The projects I worked on seemed to be a form of middle-class welfare, producing little more than rarely-read reports.
