back to article SCARESTEROID of the week to miss Earth on Friday

The UK press has noticed that NASA's Small Object Database Browser seems to show an asteroid passing close to Earth – and therefore we're all going to die on Friday. We won't: while object 2014-YB35 will pass within 2.8 million miles (4.48 million km) of Earth, which qualifies as a “near miss” in astronomical terms, it's not …

    Help us out, El Reg

Give us a BOFH and something by Dabbsy on Friday.... just in case...

The UNIVERSE will end on Friday

To be replaced by something even more bizarrely inexplicable

Re: The UNIVERSE will end on Friday

I'm sure that already happened last Friday!

And of course, a Vogon constructor fleet is due coming Thursday (never could get the hang of Thursdays)

Don't you know, the universe is on the brink of collapse

        No, not really.

    The Express?

If they haven't made any connection between this asteroid and Diana then it can't be an important story.

But does it glow with all the colours of the rainbow and circle the universe every 12.3 trillion years?

  5. Lostintranslation

How is that I am only ever given three days warning of these asteroids to prep my bunker (or "garage" as my wife insists on calling it)?

I would hope prepping involves numerous trips to the off-licence.

    If we get really lucky...

...an asteroid just large enough to destroy a building will strike the Daily Express and spare us all from their inanity.

End to the Express's freak weather

Maybe it will knock their beloved displaced polar vortex of dooooooom back into place?

    In a world

In a world where the Express is right and El Reg is "wrong" (edit: misguided), I'd hope to be wiped out by a comet!

      Re: In a world

Yes the point where the Mail or the Express actually report any science correctly will probably be a sign of the end times.

  9. Velv

Wouldn't it be ironic if a small object was missed that did get through the atmosphere and managed to take out only the Express offices. I guess it would get the Daily Star too, so a double win?

    Spooky.

I just knew that it was a Nathan Rao story before following that link. I amaze myself sometimes.

  11. Roj Blake Silver badge

And of course, on Saturday the Express will claim that the scientists got it wrong.

The British press has never let facts get in the way of a good story !
