      Undoubtedly, but, do google put their icons on hardware from oems and restrict others by leveraging the google play license and are they in a dominant market position?

    Who's "Mobile Marketplace" is Google alleged to be in control of? Certainly not Apple's app marketplace. Other than that, who has a "mobile marketplace" that is relevant and thriving? Blackberry? Windows Phone?

      Yandex, Samsung, Amazon, etc.

      We are talking about the Android platform.

      On the other hand, there is nothing to stop Yandex doing deals with phone makers supplying phones to Russia to put the Yandex stuff on top of AOSP.

    Android != Open Source

    Android Open Source Project (AOSP) is open source. If you want to additionally include the proprietary Google extensions like Play Store then yes, Google insists you take a bundle of them. It's the manufacturer's choice; they tend to go that route because they get an OS for free and it's easier than providing their own store and apps.

    Griping because your market share's down to only 60% seems a bit rich.

    Russians complaining that you need to have Windows Updater Service installed in order to use Windows Update?

      No, not really.

      More like you can no longer download desktop apps in Windows, you have to install everything through the Microsoft Store app and you can't install a third party app installer, like Steam, for example.

    right. You have a choice to use Android or not. If you don't like Google, don't use THEIR operating system. If Putin does not like it then TFB. Google gets to make ANY terms it wants to.

      What kind of choice is left between a rock (Android) and a hard place (iOS)?

      Windows Phone? Will probably goes the same way as the 2 others once established...

      Blackberry? Are they still alive?

    Everything is ideal here in Russia

    As a paid member of the Russian troll corps I have to say that everything is going well on our Great Country despite the American aggression in Ukraine. We do not need no stinking US software. Our friendship with China is growing every day and soon we will use only Chinese phones and pay them with our wonderful oil and gas. Long live our Great President!

    Russia being a sovereign country gets to make ANY terms it wants, if Google wants to do business in Russia it can comply with those terms or it can get out. AFAIK Russian law only applies within Russia. The same cannot be said for the US who abuses its economic and military dominance to blackmail/threaten other countries to comply with US laws.
