A report from Bloomberg cites sources familiar in claiming that the disappearing pic specialist wants to raise $500m in funding based on the hefty $19bn valuation. Valuation

I never, as a coder, understood the quantification. Did they show how vanishing their acts are?

      Re: Valuation

However they justify this, I'm pretty sure they will be gingerly avoiding the mention of Uber's valuation now ..

      Whatsapp had one

Free for a year, then a dollar a year per user after that - no ads ever.

Seemed a genius business model - everybody more than happy.

Just that it crumbles to dust when Facebook rocks up in your reception with a sack of billions to drop off.

@Def: If they got $60 mil one year and $500 mil the next, why, oh God why, would they want to turn a profit? They clearly haven't run out of suckers investors for their scam no doubt soon-to-be-profitable business.

if the $500m investments keep coming....

That said, if I'd built a zero-revenue photo sharing app and someone offered me $3bn, I think I'd put the deal off by laughing at what idiots they were.

"While $19bn may indeed seem like an eye-watering asking price for a photo-sharing app, it wouldn't come close to cracking the mark set by Uber last year. The ride-sharing service was able to convince investors that it was worth $41bn in its latest round of fundraising."...

Incomparable... Uber's generating lots of revenue and has potential for lots more... the other isn't.

That popped into my mind - Uber is an actual cash generating business, whereas Snapchat's valuation is probably based on the hope Facebook will buy it out at some point.
