    But will Tesla's customers' data, and Teslas' car-data, let alone the metadata surrounding both, all be shared wholesale with third parties?

    After all, they secretly did this with all their retail 3G data services for around a year before being famously caught out by some surprised users. They then publicly lied and covered up. However they weren't smart enough and were repeatedly caught out. Eventually they sent a team of managers and lawyers to do a closed-door deal with the privacy commissioner. This kept a lid on their potentially illegal (and totally uncalled for) surveillance of all those customers. Perhaps the Borg won't care too much about all that..?.
