back to article 'Bend over, Facebook' says EU, snapping on its rubber gloves

Europe’s data protection watchdogs have vowed to get tough with Facebook over its new privacy policy. The so-called Article 29 working group, which is made up of national data protection chiefs from all EU countries, has set up a special task force to probe the social network’s new Ts&Cs on data privacy. The countries taking …

    Oi Farcebook!

We don't want you violating and abusing our citizen's privacy!

We are quite capable of doing that ourselves thank you.

One Policy to Rule Them All

It's simple - because detection of most privacy violations are almost impossible, and past punishment for uncovered violations has been the equivalent of half a day's profit, every social media website has one, unspoken privacy policy:

"We will use your data any way we want to. Period"

By period, I assume you mean forever.

    For some reason

All these articles about FB, privacy, etc. make me remember Zuck's comments about people trusting him.... "dumb fucks". I would think that is all the caveat emptor one needs.

Maybe they are just looking for Human Centipede clauses?

    Really...

Facebook, Google etc are the big sites who have the financial wherewithal to create a workaround. They'll still get your data, someway, somehow, don't worry.

What do you think will happen with data from small sites that don't have the finances to change? It will be the same as it was before.

Any privacy legislation will be as ineffectual as the UN.

To right, the 10's of millions of refugees helped by UNHCR would agree, as would the millions of kids helped by UNICEF, and what about all those people helped by UNAIDS, pretty sure they would also agree, lest we forget the millions of people helped by food aid? Of course the ITU have made it impossible to make even a single call between Europe and America, let alone get hold of someone in Japan.

    facebook vs NSA & friends

Maybe the five eyes should start offering a "like" button and a few irritating instant message stickers. Then everyone would be happy to let them slurp all their personal data, web history and preferences etc. Must be a lot cheaper and easier than illegal surveillance, data cable tapping and all their nefarious shenanegans.

    Bend over?

    Surely you mean ArseBook?

The countries taking the lead on the investigation are Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, primarily because they have already started (or in Germany’s case, started thinking about) cases against the free content ad network.

Did you mean "free content" or "content free" network?
