back to article I am Police Sergeant L. Torvalds! Stop or I'll shoot

Linus Torvalds, main mover 'n' shaker behind the Linux kernel, has long had a reputation for being a bit of a hothead. Yet a new TV show puts a new spin on Torvalds' temper tantrums. Australian political thriller The Code, currently being screened on BBC 4, is - so the BBC 4 website tells us - "about two very different …

Best protection she can get at him trying to write a new filesystem.

You have the right to remain silent

But anything you do say may be distributed widely on various forums and used to beat you up until you write some decent code, or die a horrible death. Whichever comes first.

    Crikey, that show was boring...

You know a show is bad when you only watch the first and last episodes and you don't feel like you missed out on anything in the middle*.

Pretty good production values from the ABC though (typical IT BS aside).

Edit: * Except this LT in-joke of course (and apparently Lucy Lawless!"). Still not worth watching the whole thing though!!!

You did: Lucy Lawless. But where was Gabrielle?

    Accidentally named? Yeah right.

I bet they had the cheek to add a disclaimer like "Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental" despite this being an almost infinitely unlikely choice of made-up name for most English speaking people!

    From your photos

It would make for a nice little expansion pack for COD.

    Writing in Code

I watched the first episode of The Code. It was slightly less fun than reading the man page for EMACS

man Emacs? Much more fun to run 'info emacs' or read it within the Emacs session invoking C-h r or C-h i . It's quite entertaining, seriously

You do realize that vi users don't need man pages, right?

          Re: don't need man pages

I'm pretty sure EMACS users don't either, and if RMS is to believed they shouldn't even be updated!

First Law of Australian TV Drama

The actual pace is inversely proportional to what it needs to be - this is strictly obeyed by 'The Code'.

It also explains all the 'Benny Hill'-style chase sequences when a leading character dies.
