About time
Wow, its been a while since there was a story about Wikileaks doing something useful.
WikiLeaks has revealed a new draft of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the controversial free trade treaty currently being negotiated by 12 nations in the Asia-Pacific region. The new leak comprises a version of the treaty's second chapter said to be the result of round of negotiations conducted in Vietnam during May 2014. …
Given the length of time drugs can sit on the shelf before they are tested and hit the market I can see the point in extending protection for them if the price is also decreased (as they don't need to make their money back in such a short period). However stuff like DRM just needs to die. It only penalises law abiding customers. Why should they care if someone with a kindle buys a kobo and moves the books across if they don't put them up on a torrent?
The draft text provides that TPP countries will introduce criminal penalties for unauthorised access to, misappropriation or disclosure of trade secrets, defined as information that has commercial value because it is secret, by any person using a computer system.
TPP countries may criminalise all such disclosures or, if they wish, limit criminal penalties to cases that involve "commercial advantage or financial gain"; are directed by or benefit "a foreign economic entity"; or are "detrimental to a [TPP] party's economic interests, international relations, or national defence or national security."
There are no public interest or free speech exemptions. Criminalisation of disclosure would apply to journalists working for commercial media organisations or wherever the leak was considered harmful to the "economic interests" of any TPP country.
It surprises me, an Englishman, that a seriously democratic country like the USA can make these proposals which are so much against the interests of the common man. Or, as FDR once put it, "the forgotten man at the bottom of the economic pyramid".
Have they forgotten "No taxation without representation"? Where are the People's Tribunes in this negotiating process?
US democracy has long since been broken and its judiciary politicised. It costs so much to get elected there that the politicians only represent the corporations that fund them. With TTIP, those corporations are now trying to take control of democracy in Europe as well.
The modern Democrat party has completed FDR's march toward communism. They don't care about rights as we once understood them, only group rights. And as some pigs are more equal than others, they have grown accustomed to eating at the troughs they once derided.
Now get with the program before they send you off to a re-education camp.
Sorry, you lost me at your opinion that, in some way, the governing of merka by a few corporations who have bought the politicians and are now engaged in trying to ensure the rest of the world acts exclusively in the interests of those same corporations is an expression of the purest Communist ideal?
Where did you do your extensive research into the ideals and aims of Communism? Same place George Dubya studied the meaning of terrorism, at a guess.
Mine's the one with the copy of the Communist Manifesto (sponsored by Halliburton - The Peoples' Reconstructors) in the pocket.
Came across this "avoiding Wiki Leaks" guidance paper from 360is. Quite old and much of it common sense but still very relevant. http://360is.com/cgi-bin/download.pl?doc=360is-wikileaks-Q1-11.pdf
Stopping the insider and the outsider from obtaining and distributing data. It happens still every day.
Three years on and Wiki Leaks still making news............................... Who is next?
I'm sick to death of this Corporate Oligarchy BS, attempting to RULE THE WORLD (bwahahaha!) via their self-destructive, 'WE HATE OUR CUSTOMERS' legal garbage being shoved down the throats of citizen's governments around the planet.
This is nothing more than ACTA, CISPA, SOPA, PIPA customer abuse on a PLANETARY SCALE.
To hell with ANY company that backs this horrific, ABUSIVE world treaty. Expect the usual, reflexive retribution from We The People for your crimes against us.
TPP: Trash Put Plainly.
We The People RULE.
“the US remains fairly isolated in its efforts to overhaul patent and copyright law around the world”
That may be because the US' idea of overhauling patent and copyright laws is to remove more rights for the consumer and instil them with the US companies. This is based on the last few rounds of "releases" where the US seems to be desperate to squash anything that would allow "grey market" trading.
If a company shops overseas it's outsourcing. If *you* do it, it's criminal. (at least that's what the new TPP is trying to make it)
