back to article Spammer uses innocent hacked blogs to punt NAKED PICS of JLaw, McKayla Maroney

A long established smut spammer is using hacked websites to sell stolen photographs of naked celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton and McKayla Maroney. The miscreant (who uses compromised web servers to host his landing pages) has altered his pitch to include copies of the recently released stolen photographs of …

    Which is worse ?

a : The arseholes that steal and flog the pics.

b : The silly wanker that is paying for the pics and therefore encourages those in answer a:

      "The silly wanker..."

I think that in today's parlance, that should be "The silly fapper..."

      ;)

c: The Z-list celebrity who is uploading DIY pr0n to unsafe cloud services hoping it's release in the wild will resurrect a flaccid career?

While I agree some of them are indeed Z list celebrities, victim blaming isn't really the answer

          Re: Which is worse ?

'b' I believe is worse. However, as stated already everywhere else, 'a' is not only the peddler and hacker, but McKayla Maroney herself.

Do I think Maroney should be convicted of a felony charge? No. Do I think she should learn a lesson and move on...yes.

I'm not sure how the child pornography laws are drawn up, but they might be so strict that Maroney herself might have to use her first offense or be pardoned in some way. Of course this opens up a huge debate for U.S. citizens, which is: Is it O.K. to take a naked picture of yourself if you are under the legal age? You'd think the answer is as it should be, YES, but I can't tell anymore (everything is slowing tipping sideways here).

What if you're sitting in a bar and some minor girl accidentally sexets you a naked picture of her, are you a felon?

            WTF?

            Re: Which is worse ?

"What if you're sitting in a bar and some minor girl accidentally sexets you a naked picture of her, are you a felon?' Yes. Unless you have a way to scrub the device, you can be arrested at a later date, they can execute a warrant on your phone and poof! You are in prison being the target for everyone. It certainly makes for a novel method of entrapment.

I've yet to see anything on point about remains left in your browser cache, which can leave you all kinds of things even though you didn't ask for them, let alone on a phone. SSD's/flash aren't erasable in the normal course of affairs (and Hell, I'd have to go dig something up even though I should know). And hey, if it's been used/refurbished, who knows what's on it. Simply look at how the CFAA is being used here in the US.

[If someone sends you a photo you did not solicit, are they guilty under the CFAA?]

      Why choose?

Personally, I'm not terribly fond of either end of that "market".

      Re: Which is worse ?

I think the people who are actually paying to look at these photos are quite sick and the person who would download it is. But if Mckayla doesn't get charged then the other downloaders and sharers can't either

Am I the only one here...

...who has never heard of any of these people?

Thank god someone is providing engaging entertainment to distract us from all the war, pestilence and grinding poverty that a lot of the world has to live with every day (some of it generously funded by my own tax-pounds).

Re: Am I the only one here...

Jennifer Lawrence was in X-men: First Class and X-men: Days of Future Past, and the Hunger Games films (which I've not seen, but people seem to like them).

      She's not a z-lister or anything. She's actually a very good actress.

I was shocked to read past the sub-head, and discover that this wasn't about Jude Law.

    "plumbing the depths"

"The crook involved in the celeb naked snap offer is plumbing the depths to exploit the event for his or her own gain."

I'm having real difficulty here contemplating any depth lower than reddit and 4chan.

      Re: "plumbing the depths"

That's because when you dive that low, the pressure builds up and you need titanium plate rather than contem plate.

every cloud has a silver lining...

"While the HTML for the landing page is hosted on the compromised server, the images are hosted elsewhere. The wraparound porn comes from servers in Russia while potential buyers are redirected to US hosted systems."

maybe i missed the point of the story but i'm finding myself a little proud of humanity's achievements. truly the internet brings us together, connecting up far reaching places to enrich our culture and bring us closer together. in this case to see some celebrity jubs.

We've had news of terrorists too terrifying for Al Qaida and now internet filth to dirty for 4Chan!? Whatever next!? Priests too catholic for the Pope?

Those have been around some time - most of them are Irish.

So if a picture was made of this gymnast when she was under 18, and it's now been published in the UK, and she presumably owns the copyright (otherwise she has no legitimate request for it to be removed) she is therefore a filthy child porn creator and should be arrested if she ever lands in Blighty, right?

    1. Martin-73 Silver badge

No doubt she would be. Naked pics of your other half can be illegal if you happen to be a teen couple and the other half is between 16 and 18 :\

    2. Gimlithegreat

Really if the person didn't start selling the photos, this story would have passed. Because of him/her it has stayed with us. We know that no one will be charged on the 1st wave hacking (Downloaders and Sharers) because of know one knowing her age at the time of these photos being created. Plus why shouldn't she be in trouble with the sellers and buyers.

If only society wasn't so hung up on genitals...

If someone leaked the love letters of celebrities, the whole thing would've blown over in a few days despite being far more personal (which I'm sure were also saved on the 'cloud' but weren't stolen, because no one would care). And its not the nudity, people have been capturing and displaying images of naked people for many millennia. Nor is it that these celebrities are any better looking than the women and men in pornography. No, the issues is that we as a society think its a novel idea that famous people have parts that are fun and enjoyable when touched and/or looked at, just like everyone else.

This weird idea will never go away, it seems to be part of our very psyche as humans; we are uncomfortable with how we look and spend our time focusing at how everyone else looks while pretending that unless we've seen them naked, that they do not have the same parts that we do.

Re: If only society wasn't so hung up on genitals...

Not so hung up on genitals... very hung up on the abusive industry the springs up around selling access to them.

      1. Gimlithegreat

Re: If only society wasn't so hung up on genitals...

Yeah because she owns copyright over those photos. She can actually charge them. Plus why would someone create photos of themselves anyway. And upload it to a easy hackable software like Icloud

  10. Gimlithegreat

I still think those who download it and are actually buying the photos is quite sick and should be charged.

  11. Gimlithegreat

If you possess these photos, even though they are fake it is sick and immoral, please delete for the girl sake and your sake, she was underage at the time of these photos. And to anyone who has sold them or bought them you need to be put away and think what you did.
