back to article Google: let's build our own quantum computer

Is Google gently backing away from D-Wave? That's one possible interpretation from this blog post, in which Mountain View tells the world it's going to add a quantum computer flavour to the Chocolate Factory. 6oog1e's own

I was privy to an internal 6oog1e event a few months ago.

During the course of the event they demonstrated an internal product from their labs, to the applause of many 6oog1ers. Without stating what it was (nothing related to quantum computing), I will state that it was woefully out of touch with the reality of what anyone was likely to have a use for, and about a year behind what various smaller companies have been making on the outside anyway.

Since then I have realised that 6oog1e's great strength is not in developing it's own stuff, but in acquiring and enveloping the small companies that do.

Please, can people just write Google, Microsoft and Apple.

It's not edgy, it just makes you look like a 10 year old kid trying to be with the "cool" teenagers on 4chan.

It has absolutely nothing to do with being edgy. You entirely missed the point.

My comment was not put there to make me look cool, which presumably was the point of yours?

What happens then? Will it sublime into a cloud of vaporware?

    They need it

It's the only way to adequately simulate the behaviour of BMW* drivers.

*modify to taste (but BMW works for me).

Because they are both dead and alive?

Anybody who has a working quantum computer could easily break the encryptions used today.

I am not sure If I would want google to be able to do that.
