    As well as cosmetic changes and new features does anyone know if there are any performance improvements? I run Mavericks and although they said they had greatly improved memory management it clearly wasn't enough.

      Well, it's still in beta - so can't take any performance indicators from the current beta release.

      and also, evidently you won't believe what they say on the website - so you'll only know if it performs better, for your specific use case, when you install it.

      but at least it's a cheap upgrade

    (seeing as the non-public beta had a release last Friday, it's unlikely to be another release so soon this week).

    Considering Apple announced this themselves, at the WWDC, during the Yosemite launch.
