"Australia's Department of Immigration and Border Protection needs to tighten up its publishing processes to prevent repeats of a January incident ..."

... and they needed a consultant's report to work that out?

Well, if they need an expensive consultant to advise them on procedures, I'm available!

"the policies continue to attract much criticism as inhumane in their execution and inappropriate in their lack of generosity"

Mostly the policies are critcised because they work. No illegal immigrants in 6 months.

      > No illegal immigrants in 6 months.

      1. most illegal immigrants arrive by plane, from the UK actually.

      2. these aren't illegal immigrants, they are refugees. Certainly they are refugees until processed and determined to be otherwise. It isn't illegal to seek refugee status in Australia.

So really, the government has stopped brown-skinned, poor refugees by intercepting them with warships and shipping them off to a Guantanamo-type concentration camp where they handily avoid being protected by Australian law. Since they never arrive in Australia, they can claim asylum in the poorest, most violent countries of the South Pacific. Even the naming of "the Solution" evokes memories of things which should not be brought back to life.

With the absolutely tiny number of people arriving by boat, it's a massive effort which costs far more than simply welcoming them. It's a disgusting policy design to appeal to white racists, of which there are very many here in Oz.

So, you obviously don't agree with this policy. That's your right. Just as it is my right to support this policy and prevent these people from landing illegally (yes, it is also my right to call them illegal immigrants) and costing us taxpayers billions of dollars annually in accommodation costs and lawyer fees (yes, the lawyers are making a huge amount of taxpayers' money).

With the large number of people arriving by boat, it's a massive effort which costs far less than simply welcoming and maintaining them. It's a great policy designed to appeal to ordinary inhabitants, of which there are very many here in Oz.

But if you're so concerned for them, how about you look after a family of illegal immigrants in your own house at your own expense? Nah, didn't think so.

    >104 unique IP addresses accessed the file 123 times.

Incorrect. The web server served the file 123 times. They have no way of determining whether any of these downloaders passed on the document by email, USB stick, sneaker net, paste bin.

      incorect.....

The server has to know who/what to serve to.

So if you ask or something from your own PC, it has to know YOUR IP address to return the requested data to. So the logs will contain your IP address. So they can count how many separate IPs asked.

What the downloaders later did with the data is not known to the server or its masters, true. But they do know how many downloaders there were.

Refugee's who somehow manage to pay thousands...

...of dollars to the scum of the Earth for their passage to our borders. Amounts generally equal to several years median income in their own countries of origin.

We take in a significant number of legitimate refugees through the proper channels, people (Mostly dark of skin and of differing religious habits) who have spent years of their lives in the virtual prisons of refugee camps around the world; people who lodged their applications and waited for their turn. Why should self entitled upper-middle class (and higher) queue jumpers be able to purchase cuts in line from criminals in the Near, Middle and far East?

And what percentage of that tiny number, (peaking at several thousand per year IIRC), drowned at sea because those criminals deliberately put people on unseaworthy vessels, and relied on the rules of the sea which forbid leaving a vessel in distress. Several hundred DIED, and thousands more are alive only because of last minute rescues that should never have had to happen.

Re: Refugee's who somehow manage to pay thousands...

Indeed, and let's not forget that all these illegal immigrants passed through several safe countries to get to the departure point for Oz. They pay $10,000 per person for the boat trip; for someone from those countries, that is several decades of pay (or other forms of pecuniary income - one wonders how they manage to accumulate such wealth). These people are NOT in fear for their lives from their country of origin; they are just economic refugees who are looking to better their lifestyle by jumping the legitimate queue.
