back to article NORKS' own smartmobe pegged as Chinese landfill Android

North Korea’s first “home-grown” smartphone, revealed with much pride and hyperbole by state media last year, appears to be little more than a made-in-China piece of landfill Android. In news which will come as little surprise to anyone outside the hermit kingdom, a Japanese blogger (via GSM Insider) managed to get hold of the …

    That factory

It actually looks pretty modern. They even managed to get a couple of LCD monitors for the photo shoot.

I wonder where they get their apps from, and how they stop stuff "leaking" through "their" handsets to the NSA?

    Joke

    random thought...

I don't know about anyone here, but I had a brain flash of a phone with dancing apps directly connected to the NORK high command. This, of course, compares to the dancing apps plastered by phone companies to make them seem "special"....

    I'm impressed at the standards

They wear hairnets and full gowns just to put the phones into the boxes. IMAGINE what the assembly facility must be like!

    Made in China and rebranded...

So... Same as most other phone companies then? With the exception that at least other companies vary the design a little.

I mean, its a screen (probably made by Samsung/other)

    Memory (again third party)

CPU (based on ARM again third party manufacturer)

    Motherboard and some peripherals...

    OS by Google.

All bolted together by foxconn/other third party... Other than a bit of design how much actual manufacturer do "real" phone companies actually do now?
