BTiNet's engineering side are (were?) quite good. Their back office staff weren't great. I don't want to think how much worse they're gonna get now.

    Oh God...

BT really doesn't need to lose more support staff.

    Ho hum

So vastly overpriced BT iNet gets joined up with a few other overpriced subsidiaries.

Now they can justify their "80% reductions off retail" by pointing to other BT-owned websites - much like PcWorld operates.

(Never mind that even with their "fantastic discounts" other suppliers' standard retail pricing (and support!) walks all over them.)

obvious cost savings in back office duplication

Read: we will reduce the total headcount by 50% (due to office duplication), and the survivors will be rewarded by not being fired and will face an exciting opportunity to process 200% workload (IT Engage + iNet).

I'm sure the streamlining is due to make EVERYBODY happy: those to be fired are presented with exciting opportunities for career change, those not to be fired, will have retained their job, and as to the BT... well, it will save a couple of quid, but hey, that's not the main point here, is it?

Choose to dilute a company that's making money, let's hope that's they know what they're doing. There's no going back. Once you've pee'd your bed it's always going to whiff a bit.
