back to article Earth cops first asteroid impact of 2014

It's no surprise it passed almost unnoticed since it was no Chelyabinsk, but the Earth has already been taken its first asteroid impact of 2014. Dah Dah Daaaah!!!

No one would have believed that in the beginning of the 21st century that human affairs where being watched from the timeless worlds of space. No one could have dreamed we were being scrutinized as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water.

Few man even considered the possibility of life on other planets and yet across the gulf of space minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded this Earth with envious eyes and slowly and surely they drew there plans against us...

Let them come, and we will watch them die contaminated by our germs.

If I do get eaten though, I hope to give them the mother of all indigestion.

        Hmm, checklist required...

        1. Interplanetary craft capable of travelling vast distances and sustaining life in the process

        Check.

        2. Desire to visit new worlds, conquer and pillage to hearts content

        Check

        3. Vastly superior technology base than the target species

        Check

        4. Inability to understand that non-homeworld fauna could be inimical to our species

        Check

        Yep, looks like we're ok.

    Alert

So something flew by and maybe hit earth? They can't agree on when or where but they know that it did. There seems to be a lot of this in the news lately... no one saw or heard anything but everyone knows that something happened. <rolls eyes>

Hey, at least it shows they are looking out there doesn't it? Surely it's better to hear that they spotted something small and insignificant, rather than hearing we're all about to die.

No pleasing some people is there?

      Infra-sound

Did you miss the part where they talked about the infra-sound analysis and they are pretty sure where it ended up. Even posting a distance from a place?

Didn't miss it. The old Cold War nuke detonation detectors are still working.

Only, now scientists are allowed to also access them.

    Impact location

The asteroid fell somewhere in Italy. It was very very visible in the sky.

Nah. That's the size you get when you've hit them twice already. Be on the look out for another three and a UFO.
