Web portal, search and ads firm Yahoo! is set to change its logo no fewer than 30 times over the next month. If anyone is worried about the possible loss of Yahoo!'s "fun, vibrant and welcoming" image, the firm announced it will be "keeping the colour purple". And yes, the exclamation mark is here to stay. Over the next 30 …

I hope one of them is the Yahoo logo recreated in Playmobil...

'The news was announced on Tumblr, the cats'n'porn site which was snapped up by Yahoo! and then rapidly sanitised.'

Got rid of the cats then?

    Hopefully....

I hope the final one will be "YaWho?".

Kids WILL be asking that in a few years time, and will be mentioned along such 'luminaries' as Geocities, Altavista and America Online.

    Data Driven?

You'd think with their big new push to be a 'data driven' company they'd know that a logo has absolutely zero impact on results.

      Re: Data Driven?

Is there any evidence anywhere that changing a logo affects anything except for the earnings of a bunch people who want to be artists but aren't good enough at it to succeed? When do we build the "B" Ark?

    Yahoo = Malware

Never mind the exclamation mark. The only time I engage with Yahoo is when I have to waste 10 minutes of my time once a month removing it from my browser because it managed to wriggle its way back on to my desktop via some other software installation.

If they want to improve their image, they could stop doing that sort of thing, and then perhaps change the logo afterwards.

Funnily enough, they've done the EXACT same thing to Flickr. Damn Yahoo! toolbar at the top of the page.

        What's Flcikr?

Agree 100% on the malware bit though. I've had plenty of installations pop the yahoo toolbar on my browser, a few of them I've even gone through and read the installation stuff, rather than just clicking next, nowhere does it mention Yahoo is being installed (at least with a fair number of them)

McCafee is another one to do this.

    We're Number Three

I just typed 'search' into Yahoo! UK.

The first result was Google and the second was Dogpile. Scraping in at third was Yahoo!

Now that exclamation mark is well earned.

      Re: We're Number Three

It's a long time since I've seen a reference to Dogpile.

I tried the "search" search too. Just before the results in Yahoo it says "Also try: Google search ...."

Considering that bad management put them where they are today...

The logo should reflect management's response to Yahoo!s problem: a telecommuter run over in a traffic jam.

Maybe they're going to go with a new design based on programming logic.

$ of course being the standard symbol in real life terms for money, (in the USA anyway)

      ! being not.

    Different logos hmm?

I went to the yahoo page, and clicked on the logo. They have a video where they may be showing a bunch of the different logos. If so, *yawn*. Every one they showed was either "Yahoo!" written in purple, or "Y" or "Y!" in a purple circle , in a bunch of different fonts. At least it doesn't cost much to change a logo out on a web page.

    New logo

Is it too late to submit a logo?

I suggest for complete relevance to their new corporate image it should be:

    YaWho?

Paris, another entity that's a household name but doesn't really do anything.
