interesting radio antenna.
Fnar fnar!
Roughly half the young adult Brits polled in a survey have admitted to keeping naughty pictures of themselves or others on their mobile phones. One in ten confessed to accidentally sending dirty photos to the wrong person. And only a third said they protected their pocket stroker with a PIN or password. More than one in two ( …

I think this is a social problem, people are so insecure about their own appearance in comparison to others they constantly try to obtain the 'perfect pose'.
Keeping such an image on their phone probably serves as some sort of confidence boost.
I have noticed when in the pub or even just a few drinks seems a justifiably suitable occasion that the girls just want to constantly photograph themselves pouting.
Super annoying.
Totally agree. You also have to remember that people with low self esteem (both men and women) will send a person compromising photos of themselves if they think the person is genuine and is actually interested in them. We've heard time and before cases where people have their photos broadcast on the internet from someone they trusted with the photo.
If you have low self esteem, especially about your appearance, you hate being photographed and you hate looking at photos of yourself. The last thing you want to do is send photographs to others, or peruse them yourself. (The self-hate sessions are what mirrors are for.)
So I cannot imagine low self esteem being a reason for having compromising selfies on your phone.
Vanity, on the other hand ...
"You also have to remember that people with low self esteem (both men and women) will send a person compromising photos of themselves"
This is complete and utter bullshite!
I'd suggest that you would have to be happy with your body to send naked pic of yourself to someone.
There is nothing wrong with it. It is completely natural.
Are you stupid or are you deliberately being thick?
People with low self esteem, not all of them, will do anything to get positive feedback from others regarding themselves. They will often take a photo (or worse) to the person showing interest in a way to keep the interest. It's hard to explain, but I've seen it happen and known it happen. The worst case I know of was of a student who had let her boyfriend film her doing a specific act upon his person, which was then distributed to his friends when they broke up. She was 17, and did it because she felt she could trust the boyfriend and make him love her more.
So, instead of living in the same deluded pretentious place that Claire Perry and that Godfrey Bloom reside in and join the real world, where unreal pressures are put on our young people for them to conform and be accepted by any means that they feel is possible.

Retarded! Usual bull from the inexperienced. Nicely supported by " It's hard to explain, but I've seen it happen and known it happen". Grow up son.
Grow up? You're telling me to grow up and you call me retarded? Mate are you 12 or something?
Listen to me. A student of mine had this happen to them, and it affected them a great deal. It is hard to explain, but breathing would be hard to explain to someone like you who's got their head so far up their own arse they're just to tasting shit.
"Are you stupid or are you deliberately being thick?"
" join the real world, where unreal pressures are put on our young people for them to conform and be accepted by any means that they feel is possible."
No pressure, but I'd like you to read back to yourself the two phrases you wrote above, and consider where they might be at odds with each other. Thanks.
Claire Perry will hear about this. And ask herself how it can be that the mobile companies don't have to have a child porn filter on their products. She'll ask for some suggestions from her pals at mumsnet and the IWF and together they will come to this conclusion:
Most of the top people at mobile companies are male, and thereby it's no wonder that they promote this filth.
To make the world better and protect our children this has to stop so we have to get rid of all the child porn maniacs in the industry and replace them with responsible mothers. There should also be an 'opt-in' option to activate the camera in any case, and an age restriction on it's use. All pictures are to be checked against a National Child Porn Database, and only released after it's confirmed that they don't break any laws.
Interesting times ahead, indeed.
"replace them with responsible mothers."
Do you live in Narnia? It's not what I see and read everyday. If mothers are so responsible, explain the growing number of kids needing adoption/fostering? Explain the growing social drepevation in th UK. Sorry mate, you seem bind to me.
"There should also be an 'opt-in' option to activate the camera in any case, and an age restriction on it's use"
If these mothers were so responsbile they would already have activated these feature BEFORE giving thier liitle treasure a totally unrestricted mobile phone.
I had the frank talk with my kids, the talk most parents are too frightened to give. They were told about peer pressure and not to fall into the "popularity" trap, they were told about sex and how they would be pressured and persuaded into it.
I can only give them my experience and hope that they are strong enough to heed it and not listen to the complete claptrap they will be bombarded with from others on a daily/hourly basis.
Generation X is generally cited as those born between the mid 1960s and the end of the 1970s or start of the 1980s. If we suppose the last GenXer was born in 1980 then they would be about 33 today. Generation Y is generally cited as those born from the early 1980s up to the early 2000s. This would seem to be the group into which the survey questioned would fall. An arithmetic error on your part it would seem.
It's their phone and it's a free country the last time I checked. Why do we always have this "people with low self-esteem" argument? I'd suggest that it actually takes quite a bit of pride in your appearance to keep a few naked selfies on the phone.
We're all naked underneath our clothes anyway - big deal!
Clearly your correspondent is in the wrong demographic, with his phone galleries being full of family gatherings
I have several pictures of a naked bird on my phone.

"The numbers come from Appysnap, a social photography app whose makers asked Brits aged 18 to 35 how embarrassing the pictures stored on their handsets really were."
No...these dullards are "Gen Y"...not "Gen X". You one of them perhaps?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Y
You need to ask again - but this time demand proof if they deny having dirty pics on their phone... and post the evidence if you catch them lying about it.
It would get lots of views, sort of like a NSFW get-to-know-the-Reg-staff-way-too-well article...
