'...releases an album of "motivational business music".'
"And now, before we start work, let us all sing 'Glorious efforts of labouring workforce will promote success', as written for you by the Dear Leader himself......"
Ex-Groupon chief Andrew Mason is moving to San Francisco to start a new company, after of course, he releases an album of "motivational business music". Mason has been keeping himself busy since he was ousted from the voucher bazaar he helped found, doing all those things that (really, really rich) people do when they're …
Is that this (link to YouTube)?
There's only one way to get business wisdom and that's through being in business. The über structured way school is taught also does a disservice to kids as all those nice rules and logic and schedules go straight out the window as soon as the go to work.
I think all college students should have a job as their first year of school. Let them see how things work so hopefully they can pick up some useful knowledge that can't be learned in class.
Also motivational business albums are a stupid fucking idea.
> I think all college students should have a job as their first year of school.
And the second. And the third.
It would mean we wouldn't have to spend the first twelve months after graduation teaching them to do something useful while simultaneously kicking the cockiness out of them.
Deal El Reg,
I love you very much, and am a big fan of your snarky, yet informative, take on IT News. However, if you ever play any of these 'songs' on your website, I shall betake myself to your offices in London and fill them full of shark infested custard until you're really sorry.
All the best,
I ain't Spartacus
P.S. can we have an icon for someone covering their ears in anticipatory horror please?
OK, no sound files. How about some lyrics? Here's my fledgling attempt at a motivational managerial anthem:
- Verse 1 -
Oh man, oh man, oh manager mine,
In your polyester shirt and tie.
Clicking your biro, and looking so fine,
What a guy.
You make the office a great place to be.
You motivate me.
- Verse 2 -
You make the morning meetings fun,
With your accents and your jokes.
Managing the team when work's to be done,
What a bloke.
In your Friday chinos, you're something to see.
You motivate me.
- etc, etc ...
- If I've managed to evoke memories of a motivational figure you've known, I'll be humbly gratified. I reckon I can manage about another 700 verses of that guff

Why do I find such pious self belief annoying?
I don't even know the guy, why would I hate him?
I'm sure he's just a regular person really, isn't he?
Makes my f#ckin' skin crawl though, it does, it really does.
I guess that's my problem, not his.
