Perhaps they should put more effort into their software

Their HTML5 implementation of Words With Friends is buggy and slow. Oh, so slow. It takes several minutes to boot on a Windows Phone.

    I just don't get it

" compared to an $85.3m loss in Q1 2012, on revenues of $263.6m"

How does a software company (I'm being generous here) spend 350m in a quarter?

I was wondering this too - perhaps they should get a better hosting deal? Or maybe it is exec fees based on their glory days...

All those stock options to incentivise and retain executive talent doesn't come cheap!

I agree especially as they have specifically said they don't want originality just clones of things that are popular that other people have.

That specific figure caught my attention because I read Pincus took out about 300m of his personal wealth out of the company during that same period! Coincidence?

    Beautiful example of PR-speak here

"[This year] remains a transition year" - yeah, you're transitioning into loss.

"This reflects the challenging environment on the web " - yeah, people are still not dumb enough to pay you real money for your cloning efforts ; what a shame.

"We’re excited about the entire category of the social casino" - man, there are SO many people yet to con ! And so many ways to con them !

"regulatory obstacles that we can't predict or control" - whassatyousay ? gambling is illegal in most states ? Chucks ! Now what do we do ?

So they were just another game company after all...

I can' t help remembering the controversy as Zynga executives clawed back stock options issued to employees they saw as undeserving before the IPO.

Somehow the job of running a real business turns out to be more difficult than fleecing a bull market of its silly money. Hubris, meet Nemesis.
