The vote as taken is two shy of the 2/3 majority needed to enact CISPA over a presidential veto. Let's see where the Senate goes on this first. If the Senate does not pass CISPA as written by the House, the conference committee will kick in which will forge a compromise bill that will require a revote.
Of course they wouldn't pass a bill that meant the end of global terrorism. They wouldn't be able to keep passing more laws to abolish basic rights and impose oppressive security, their friends would lose all their lovely profits from supplying all those counter-terrorism services, lots of spooks would be out of work - it would be awful!

Pushing through legislation in one forum which wont get approved in the next and dooes not have support from the president who can veto it?? Just another ridiculous example of how disfunctional the american government is if you ask me.....they cannot agree on anything that might actually benefit the country but continue to work on crapislation that while is important from a national security standpoint really is not going to do much to help the broader population.
When are politicians ever going to understand that these uneccessary laws only serve to further trample the freedoms proscibed in the US Constitution that even protect the damned politicians?

Please note that it says "among these" when referring to the unalienable Rights. "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" are just the examples of some of those rights. Many others, like the Right to speak your mind in public and to be secure in your papers against unreasonable searches are mentioned in the Constitution.
People seem to forget that the "Founding Fathers" wanted to get the point across that people have more Rights as individuals than just the ones they mentioned.
If we let them, the governments and big corporations will strip us of ALL those Rights if we let them.
Sooner or later the People will make a line in the sand and say "this is as far as it goes".

What we've had in the US and Britain for the last 200 years is a rare exception to the natural state of man. The two previous instances in which men were somewhat free lasted for similar time periods. Looking through history the natural state of man is to be ruled by despots wondering if you are ever going to be safe or have enough to eat.
Most any of what happened, when it happened, or how to fix it. Because most ignore a key factor in that quote: that the rights are granted by God, whose name is now verbotten in government and in many public squares. Until that is reversed the path will be ever downward.

Well, whichever one it is, let him come down here and sort it out.
One thing I will say is that America is becoming more of a religious crack pot state, not less (compared to the secular basis of the original government) which roughly correlates with the degradation to which you refer.
You need more sensible thinking not less, but I don't see a great deal of that coming from America at the moment.
Oh and by the way, those rights were granted by a group of people, some of which were atheists. "God" had nothing to do with it.
If there was ever a reason to use the rights endowed in the Second Amendment (and the Jeffersonian interpretation of WHY the Second Amendment exists IE to allow the people to overthrow an unjust and tyrannical government), then now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.... I have not forgotten the rights and obligations of citizenship.
