back to article Malware and domain-squatters target Boston Marathon bombing

The scummier end of the online community has been quick to use Monday's bombing of the Boston Marathon as bait for multiple malware dispersals, plus a spot of old-fashioned online fraud along the way. Within 24 hours of the blasts, the ISC reported that 234 potentially fake domains have been registered featuring mention of the …

      Non-coherent line

When someone plants a bomb to blow up random innocent people it's that merciful God bloke showing his displeasure again! Yet if someone throws a drink out a car window at one of the Phelps kids holding a grossly offensive placard (Louis Theroux's program), then it's "they are such cowards, who would hit a child?" !!

The choleric, hate-filled idiots at the WBC can't even maintain a coherent, or logical line.

    Two whole days later...

...the malware slingers and domain squatters are just now rushing in to capitalize on the Boston Marathon bombing? Running a little late, aren't they? Must be losing their touch.

    Domain Squatters must ..... D I E

Well we can hope. One of these days, a nice TLD registry will actually police these things and we will all benefit. Until then, we can only hope.

    We can only hope

That the WBC goes to China for the funeral of the Chinese grad student so China can go old school on their pathetic arses and let the three who died rest in peace.

      Re: We can only hope

It would be just desserts if the Chinese took the WBC out to the border with Mongolia, and left them there.

    Condolences to

    the families and the victims.

If there was a complaint against someone for beating someone for protesting a funeral, and I was on the jury, I think I would vote to nullify.

One more thing, it's anonymous... by definition they can't have an official communication channel, as that would mean someone is actually in charge. So all channels of communication are as official as all others.

    Crackers, Crackers or just crackers!

"Then crackers claiming to be from Anonymous appeared to have taken over the Facebook page of the WBC.....

Tham thar cult members themsels already count as Crackers in both traditional meanings of the word. Hicks from Paddidilysquach, Kansas -- or simply bonkers.

Would you say the same about pedophilia... never mind all this hoohah about taking down kiddie-porn websites, just stop looking for it on the internet!

Oh, because YOU have no problem with one of those two things, those who do should ignore it. But the one you don't like should be stopped?

"Oh, because YOU have no problem with one of those two things, those who do should ignore it. But the one you don't like should be stopped?"

You just made the classically deranged, Republican argument that there is some kind of asociation between gay sex and child sex. There isn't. Gay sex is consensual, child sex is an abhorrent, non-consensual act (a child can not consent because they don't understand what they're consenting to). The fact that you can think of gay sex in the same terms as pedophilia shows just how deranged and removed from reality you are.

Here's the difference - gay sex is matter of biological preference, like eating mustard. I don't like mustard, but I don't try and ban people who are eating mustard consensually just because I don't like it. Child sex is a matter of raping the unprotected and every effort should be made to eradicate it. If you can somehow make those two things the same, you are a deeply disturbed individual.

This god fella sure is nasty

Imagine, this 'god' needs to plant bombs to send a message?

It must be very nasty and vindictive.

    Must have an inferiority complex.

    Who'd worship such a thing?

    Joke

Since they're so fond of protesting funerals

Why don't we wait for some kind of westbro gathering and plant a bomb amongst them. Why? Because it'll have a 2 fold victory, firstly we can take out a few of the scummier people of the USA, and secondly afterwards we can picket the funeral with signs "God sent the bombs" and such.

Of course this is in jest. I say this explicitly otherwise I'd be extradited by the USA for conspiracy to bomb inbreeds.

    Westboro

As the only scum to actually appear glad that these bombs were 'sent', perhaps the police or FBI would like to detain some members of the church for questioning? Catch them at the memorial service and cart them off.

It's a good job WBC are a bunch of loons then!

Hateful as they are, I thought all you internet liberals were in favour of free speech? When a copper gets in trouble for saying something on Twitter, that's wrong because it suppresses his right to say what he wants. But WBC shouldn't have the freedom to say what they want?

Personally people like WBC are why I am not in favour of the kind of unlimited free speech the internet endorses, but it seems a bit two-faced.

Re: God is kind of a dick

I don’t think you have to be a liberal to dislike the WBC, also flagrant use of the word ‘liberal’ as an attempted insult leads me to think you are not really aware of the meaning of the word, and possibly subscribe to the Fox News school of thought that somehow Liberal ideals are evil.

Let me give you a simple example.

Stalin, Inequality, Dictatorships, Slavery,– Not liberal

The Right to Free Speech, trail by Jury. Freedom of the Press, Democratic elections, all men equal under God - Liberal

Of course I might be misjudging you and you are a supporter of Dictatorships, and would rather the western world be more like Iran, in which case by all means carry on calling everyone else Liberals

Just because I am a supporter of free speech doesn’t mean I have to like what everyone says

"I don’t think you have to be a liberal to dislike the WBC"

I didn't say anything about liking the WBC. I didn't use liberal as an insult, but to make a point.

I SAID the point of free speech is you're supposed to let people you loathe have it too. Taking down their website or supporting those who do is endorsing the suppression of their free speech, surely? Don't anonymous believe in free speech?

Since I'd be in favour of WBC being banned and censored, I have no problem with their site being taken down, but not in the name of freedom.

        I'm all for free speech.

I'm also all for calling out people for being hate-filled little shits.

One doesn't preclude the other. Quite the opposite in fact. If you have the right to claim God hates $demographic because of $event then I hate the right to say you're a nobend for saying that.

Re: God is kind of a dick

They can say what they like online and we can either ignore it or laugh at it or even better spread it further just to illustrate what terrible dicks they are to as many people as possible. Once they turn up to a funeral to abuse the mourners they have passed from free speech into harassment by causing emotional injury to the family and should be arrested and prosecuted as such. There's nothing two-faced in that argument at all.

    something positive?

On trips to Boston it will be observed that recreation for a substantial number of the local residents includes attending bars that have overt support for people who planted bombs in British streets and pubs.

I'd like to think that if anything positive were to come from these bombings it would be that it might cause such behaviour to be frowned upon in Boston, but I doubt it.

      Re: something positive?

I read an article on the Onion which basically went along the lines of ‘This is the world we live in now, where this sort of thing happens’ which was well written and to a point I agree with.

But while I do not want to appear insensitive, a lot of us have been living in that world for a long time, and just because it has now happened in the US doesn’t make this something new.

I do wonder if the collections I saw being passed around pubs in Boston in the 90s still get passed around, and me feeling obliged to put a few dollars in, for my own safety, not wanting to think about which murder it went towards.

But the last thing I was going to do was lecture a bar full of IRA sympathisers on the idea that maybe while they thought of the Republican movement in some pre-1922 romantic ideal of funny flat cap wearing men riding around on bikes fighting the full force of the British Empire the reality was more bombs being planted outside shops, schools on buses and in pubs, drug dealing, mafia style protection, and random abductions and murders of people due to what part of a city they were born in.
