Four the top five highest-paid executives in the S&P 500 last fiscal year were Apple senior managers – and CEO Tim Cook was not among them. According to a Bloomberg report on Monday, Apple's board of directors are apparently quite eager to keep their top team members happy – and, more importantly, to keep them from straying …

    Hey, speaking of Blamer

We're 3 months into 2013: Microsofts year of hell and ZDNet has announced the death of Windows 8. It's such a shame - I really enjoyed giving it a good kicking.

Considering how much executive compensations is based on options, and how much Apple stock has tanked (which should harm the options as well), The kinda blows my mind.

Now here is a good reason...

...to keep that gargantumongous stash of cash in the bank! We wouldn't want a few bad years to lead to personnel attrition, now would we?

    Jony Ive?

Pity that Jony Ive is not amongst the top four: given the huge impact his vision had on the success of Apple and the existence of the iphone and ipad, he is surely far more deserving of a ridiculous payout than a bunch of lawyers and managers. Still it's always the way - lawyers and managers reward their own.

      Re: Jony Ive?

I'd reckon that while Jony isn't on that list for salary he is hardly on his uppers in terms of share options etc. If you actually looked at his total benefits package rather than his salary he won't be far off the top earners in the Orchard.

They can afford to pay their top executives a ton of money because they don't pay their stockholders squat in dividends.

'Because they can' is not a reason to pay someone lots of money

Apple spends huge amounts of money losing lawsuits against Samsung all round the world. They are also spending billions on a new UFO shaped HQ. Who benefits most from that expenditure?

      Stop

      You've not been paying attention

Cook switched to paying a dividend. It's currently worth about 2.5%, which puts it above about 90% of companies in the tech sector.

    The economy is finally graspable!

Now that we have a proper measure of currency, are we someday going to see trends measured in Real Ballmers or Constant 2013 Ballmers?

    How much...

    ...is enough?

It's a shame these people don't have the intelligence to be able to answer a simple question.
