the police dont care about rape

here are a list of "real" serious crimes that police care about:

    . smoking weed

. not saying yes master quick enough when they tase you

    . knowing your rights

. supporting terrorists (aka any activity where the cop sees you and wants to practice breaking your ribs)

you forgot pulling people over for speeding tickets

and pulling them over for not wearing their seat belt(well that happens frequently around me)

The above 2 also come with a car search for drugs if you are a minority

I'm lucky our local plods are alright, at least with locals. I did get pulled once for no seatbelt (on a motorbike, go figure) but another officer I knew turned up and I got a warning about high winds (just fyi I wasn't speeding etc, I guess he was having a bad night). Mostly I've found being polite and respectful gets you out of tickets, even when you deserve them. Having said that, cops vary massively!

Fixed the title for you (but not the missing apostrophe).

The police don't care about serious crime, because dealing with serious crime means dealing with serious habitual criminals, the sort (male) when questioned about the ladies handbag they are carrying respond with a glasgow kiss.

They care even less about really serious crime because that means dealing with really serious criminals who usually have shootey things and are prepared to use them to protect their multi-million stash of drugs.

The really serious criminals also do their homework, "Good evening officer plod, how's Mrs Plod, isn't she marvellous the way she helps out in the old peoples home every Tuesday night, and how's young plod getting on in St Chlamydia's primary school, the teachers are great aren't they. Now what do you want to talk to me about?"

Much easier to give out speeding tickets and operate checkpoints looking for motorists without tax and/or insurance. And it generates revenue for the state as well.

    WTF?

    > assaulted at a series of parties

A SERIES of parties? How? Are there many parties doing rape in town at any given night? Do they pass drugged-up girls around? WTF??

Also looks like at this point in time the evidence will be so tainted / potentially shooped that it might well be thrown out. Unless someone fesses up.

It would be better to invoke Nullification. Nullification says that the Jury could not in "good conscious" find the defendant guilty and are invoking their Constitutionally granted authority to nullify the law, ignore the evidence and Judges instructions.

US Judges and Prosecutors HATE this clause and don't tell the Jury about it anymore. It used to be part of the instructions given to the Jury before deliberations.

I am not surprised on more than one level.

As long as as there is a "dating queue" for every small deity on the college/high school football team that shit will continue. The poor girl life will be ruined, she will get nothing from the local "justice" either. However, that is not the most disgusting part. The most disgusting part is that another one will readily take her place amidst the crowd which will hang out with jocks for that fleeting chance to date one. The fact that her predecessor was drugged and gang raped will not deter any of the fresh aspirants for "jock date" position.

Acts like this rarely happen in isolation - 'The Rape Crew' moniker should have given EVERYONE nearby a clue earlier.. Yup, the same society that pays college football coaches multimillion dollar salaries. One university just lost nearly 2 million bucks in a year just on the football team. Another school just spent 5 million on a sports field, the same school system that could only afford teachers for 9 days a fortnight last year. Just to hammer it home they had some interviews with the students about the field, I guess the football team was off at a party so they got the girls soccer team, one comment was "now we don't have to worry about getting dirty". Nothing about not breaking ankles in holes so it can't have been bad before.

      accessories and accomplices

Accessories and accomplices are libel for the same range of criminal penalties as the person who committed the original crime.

So yes, let us hope they go after the closed mouthed people practicing a civilian version of the thin blue wall of silence (aka the thin blue wall of obstruction of justice).

Nope. Releasing evidence that implicates a hell of a lot more than two people, and supposedly didn't exist according to police/prosecutors.

      BTW its hearsay.

      Are you aware:

That one of the parties where the girl was raped was hosted by the original prosecutor, and that the prosecutor's son was one of the alleged participants?

That the prosecutor disuaded the girl and her parents from pressing charges?

That she did not recuse herself until six weeks after the original allegation, and that by the time she did, almost no evidence remained.

That the accused were already known as "The Rape Crew" BEFORE this assault took place.

It will be very interesting to see if the publicity generated by these revelations has any actual impact.

I also have to put the Denning quote into context as on the surface it puts the English system in an equally bad light. At the time he made it, the old boy was touching 90, and had been retired for years.

In fact he had to retire due to a stream of increasingly erratic comments and judgments, so while he said it, he was in no position to put it into practice, and similar comments had ended his career.

            Re: Here say?

Denning's comment needs to put in the proper context, he seems to be a bit of a fuckwit more concerned with protecting the system that protecting innocent people; from wikipedia:-

"In 1980, during an appeal by the Birmingham Six (who were later acquitted) Lord Denning judged that the men should be stopped from challenging legal decisions. He listed several reasons for not allowing their appeal:

Just consider the course of events if their action were to proceed to trial ... If the six men failed it would mean that much time and money and worry would have been expended by many people to no good purpose. If they won, it would mean that the police were guilty of perjury; that they were guilty of violence and threats; that the confessions were involuntary and improperly admitted in evidence; and that the convictions were erroneous. ... That was such an appalling vista that every sensible person would say, "It cannot be right that these actions should go any further."[83]

"In the summer of 1990 he agreed to a taped interview with A.N. Wilson, to be published in The Spectator. They discussed the Guildford Four; Denning remarked that if the Guildford Four had been hanged "They'd probably have hanged the right men. Just not proved against them, that's all".[92] His remarks were controversial and came at a time when the issue of miscarriage of justice was a sensitive topic.[93] He had expressed a similar controversial opinion regarding the Birmingham Six in 1988, saying: "Hanging ought to be retained for murder most foul. We shouldn't have all these campaigns to get the Birmingham Six released if they'd been hanged. They'd have been forgotten, and the whole community would be satisfied... It is better that some innocent men remain in jail than that the integrity of the English judicial system be impugned."[94][95]

When you provide more specifics as to where you obtained your information and how you formed this would be helpful in making your point. links to hard evidence would help.

Don't get me wrong, I think anyone involved in the act or cover up of this girls attack should be punished fully tot he extent our US Laws, but I also know mobs are formed by the use of mis-information and catering to the peoples emotions and avoids the fact that in the US, all criminals are considered innocent until PROVEN guilty in a court of law. Just remember back when Spike Lee tweeted the wrong address for Zimmerman's and an innocent families house was picketed and they were harassed and had to go into hiding due to the mob mentality and lack of calm minds.

By irresponsibly posting information on the web, these "hackers" could risk the life of an innocent person. That would not help this poor girls cause/case.

We have law enforcement officers to prevent lynch mobs. Don't get made at a police officer if they pull you over for speeding when you were speeding. If your breaking the law and get caught, try and learn from it. don't blame the people's whose job it is to enforce the laws. Keep in mind there are bad people in all jobs/careers and that not all police are bad. Just as not all lawyers are good or have your interests in mind. Not all doctors are good, etc.

No. They shod be publicly tortured for the rest of their lives. . . Which should be prolonged for as long as medically possible. All of them, the silent and the picture takers included. Anyone involved in covering it up should share their fate.

If what is alleged is true (and the evidence is compelling) then they should be punished... harshly... including those who stood-by and did nothing to stop it. However, if you really believe they should be publicly tortured, you are more than just technically confused. In fact you're more than just confused, you're disturbed.

Social media firms should always ask for a search warrant

Social media firms should always ask for a search warrant, and in cases like this a search warrant should be easy to get. Same deal with ISPs and telecos, no search warrant, no info.

Social media firms should not be deciding what and what not to reveal to police based on rumors or vigilantes.

Search warrants are easy to obtain when there is probable cause, and can be obtained 7/24/365 if necessary.

I suspect (but do not know) the police, being typical American police, did not want to go out of their way to harm the local high school football team -- which is pretty sad if true.

yeah, i'm going to assume the article's call for "social firm justice" was made in a state of emotional distress. You don't set the precedent of ignoring the people's freedoms every time a disturbing case needs evidence. evidence you could have had just fine, in many cases, if your local justice system functioned properly. no they didn't try to recover the "deleted data". There is no way all these kids/rapists securely wiped their storage media. In fact, i would wager it was the police who were doing some of the deleting. everyone always wants to pass the buck to the people every time doing it right is too tedious. hint: doing it the right way is not usually the fastest, easiest or cheapest way to do it! This kind of socialist, lowest common denominator shit is being drilled into people's brains from an early age.ex: all the kids in a class are punished because one didn't follow the rules. the author needs to be wary of spreading enemy propaganda as that's going to start coming with a cost attached to it.

If you want a balanced, well written account of what happened, check out: < http://localleaks.blogs.ru/2013/01/01/steubenvillefiles/ >.

Nothing in a horror movie would encompass what allegedly happened, the us of the word "allegedly" here is hardly warranted. There were too many pieces of evidence to excuse the us of "allegedly".

As the father of a teenaged daughter, I was sickened by the vivid picture painted, teenaged boys dragging a 'trophy' around to share with their equally sick friends. A prime 'condoner' in this latest violence to a child seems, once again, to be a coach, who facilitated some of the early assaults on this child.

Where have we heard this before? Pennsylvania! Then, only last week, Hamline University (St. Paul, Minnesota) - the coach is at the centre of the allegations. Missoula, Montana Football Team - almost identical to Steubenville, Ohio.

Th allegedly crooked sheriff, a relative who is the drug king pin, a prosecutor whose son is on the team, and on and on.

Read the account < http://localleaks.blogs.ru/2013/01/01/steubenvillefiles >, you'll never sleep if your daughter isn't at home.

The authorities in Ohio will try to protect the football players. I hope the victim's attorney is a good one. After being drugged unconscious the girl was transported and raped at three different homes. One of the homes belonged to an assistant football coach and another belonged to the female prosecutor who tried to bury the criminal case. The prosecutor's son was alleged to be a member of the "rape crew" and one of the girl's attackers. The owners of all three homes where the rapes occurred should be facing huge civil liability suits. The plaintiff will surely collect all of the liability coverage from homeowner's insurance.

    Nice try

ASSnonymous can't legitimize themselves by occasionally trying to do some good. They are basically unprosecuted criminals soon to be very anonymous and in jail.

Good grief, but you are a bit of a dimwit, aren't you? There is no Anonymous as such, just a bunch of people on the internet with a shared passion for, erm, lulz. And a few of these got together and wanted to expose a few major cesspits in our genetic pool, further aided by the fact that said cesspits are jocks, who are the natural nemeses of basement dwellers and other neckbeards, which is what most Anons are. Besides, what could be lulzier than exposing a few local deities to some richly deserved punishment and humiliation?

Note that I do not care much for most of Anon's undertakings, and find some of them to be downright despicable, much like what I think of Christians and their various sub-organisations and denominations, but in this case, Anon done good, much like Christians occasionally do.

    What about DNA?

After the rapes the girl's parents took her to a hospital. I hope someone collected semen samples. Reports say that at least six boys raped the unconscious girl.

NO DNA, they only went to the police days after the rapes/

Why isn't this all over the international news like the Indian rape case?

I mean theReg, an IT mag, is the only UK based site reporting this. I'm guessing non-geeks outside the US will never hear about this one...and why aren't Americans protesting in the streets demanding justice like those Indians?

    1. WatAWorld

the Indian rape case involved a death

The Indian rape case involved a death is why. That makes it a much bigger deal.

Still, this case in the states should get a bit of coverage in Canada and the UK. I mean, it isn't happening so often that it is not news -- is it?

      1. tonysmith

Re: the Indian rape case involved a death

It was international news before she died and in terms what actually happened in each case the US version is a bit more disturbing considering the cover-up in a country were you'd expect better.

It was international news not because of the rape itself, but because of the protests that followed. If it hadn't been for the protests, you'd never have heard about the rape.

Sure is a lot of fuss about what can only be described as a bit of harmless college rape

I bet all involved are rather bemused by the attention this is getting! I thought rape parties were commonplace. Oh well you live and learn.

    Stop

    Outside intervention

This clearly needs outside intervention. I.e. someone from another area/state in the police force to come in and investigate what has happened and all of those involved.

This is the only way for this to be sorted out properly and those who are guilty of involvement punished and those not guilty delcared so.

    Stubenville city replies

    http://steubenvillefacts.squarespace.com/

It seems the calls for outside investigators and independent prosecutors are things that are being done.

As well as allegedly having a tradition of letting high school football players get away with rape, the USA has a tradition of making a big thing about crimes that happen to pretty white girls.

When I used to watch CNN there would be the 4 stories getting 24/7 coverage: one political story, one industrial accident/fire, one pretty white girl who had gone missing.

It turns out that stories of the police chief's son being at the party, or being one of the rapists, or being on the football team are untrue. Same thing with the initial lead investigator.

It turns out that stories the girl was carried from party to party are the sick thoughts of some commenter somewhere, being repeated endlessly.

I'm sure the press will be carefully going over Stubenville city's claims on that web page looking for any holes. From what I can see most of the information should be easy to check out from school year books.

I cannot help but think that this is one rape of one pretty white girl, one of dozens of rapes that occurred that weekend across the USA.

Why does no one care about the other dozens of girls who were raped that weekend?

My point there, the other political stores, the other wars, the other industrial accidents, and the other missing girls (most of whom were not white) got zero coverage from CNN.

It was 24/7 about one story from each category, and when one missing white girl story was resolved, it would be replaced with another. Each category would be filled with one story at a time.

Re: Why does no one care about the other dozens of girls who were raped that weekend?

Make enough fuss about one high profile case, and maybe the general attitude will change (the general attitude apparently being that rape is just a bit of fun, and boys will be boys)?

    In Finland the same

Every junior ice hockey player in small city is thinking being king of the world and there is lot of rumors about dating lists (girls circulated trough whole team). Best of all - these boys are teached to smuggle tobacco products from Sweden as young adults - as using those is in the fad in ice hockey community.

It is hard to fall from the top, so doping usage is quite common also. So no wonder, there is many doping and/or drug smuglers among them in later age as they have learned to the morale in early age. I do not say, that even most of (former) icehockey players is drug/doping smuggler, but if I would be customs officer, I would include history of hockey playing as one possible elevating risk factor for suspected trafficer. Especially if the career had failed late teens or as young adult. The same goes possibly to football players in US.

But good player are worth a lot of money...

Yes, of course, rape is a bad thing but money is a good thing. College football players are worth a lot of money to colleges. They can be sold on for a $$$ when they graduate. This money supports the whole college system and especially scholarship programs. It's just a balancing act: rape parties vs education for poor people. You do want poor people to get educated don't you?

    Note: the above was sarcasm.

  34. The FunkeyGibbon
    Thumb Down

    It's not just the crime.

I am sickened like all sane people by what these men did. I call them men because animals work largely on instinct, however sick these men are they are still capable of higher reasoning and therefore it makes their crime worse. I dog kills it may be out of primal fear or instinct, a human does it with the ability not to.

More disturbing is the cover-up. A cover-up requires planning, multiple-parties and many supposedly rational people choosing consciously that the course they wish to take is not the just course but the one that suits them best. Evil on top of evil.

    Absolute school sports corrupt absolutely

As with everything here in the USA, it's all about money. Jocks are a protected species, know it, and act like it. Can't have any of those college moneymakers languish in jail now, might hurt Screw U's chances at a bowl game next year. And Senator Stasi is a huge fan!

Ditto on the cops not giving a damn. Their political masters want them generating "revenue" on the roads, not wasting money failing to solve crimes. In forty years, not one crime perpetrated against my family or friends has had a culprit brought to justice. Been hassled on the highway plenty of times though.

Hangin's too good for them. BURNING'S too good for them. They ought to tear them into little bitty pieces and bury them AAALIIIVE!

Maybe this is just a rhetorical question...

What happend to our humanity? High profile rape cases all over the world, high profile murder cases and people take a passe' attitude about it. I don't understand. This has just gotten sad.
