    corporate a*eshole, an attack dog, who gets the job done.

    Scott Forstall's problem was he never completed the job and, hence, the Crappy Mappy app.

    They could use him over at HP where the blonde would-be politician is serially screwing up and driving the once great company down the toilet. The real problem is the Board of Directors - they should never have abandoned Hurd as he has dual motives now: succeed at Oracle and give HP the biggest 'fingers' sign as he leaves them in the dust.

      Scott Forstall was Steve Jobs' attack dog. He started with Jobs and NeXT and then came back to Apple when Jobs did. He clearly didn't work as Tim Cook's attack dog - or at least the fact that he pissed off everyone else so much became more of an issue when Jobs was not there. So Cook got rid of him. At the same time, the rest of upper management got completely reorganised and a couple of people got promoted. We will see how it now goes.

        As in most companies an "attack dog" is necessary. Without one you just get run over by the competition. It's too bad that most Apple consumers are great big weeping vaginas that will doom what has been the best company turnaround since WWII. People aren't in business to make friends and having a good companion (attack dog) by your side is a positive. Sell your Apple shares now, day after tomorrow it's going in the shitter.

    The Beeb website has a graphic with a picture of the NEST thermostat the comment is "Nest is controlled by rotating its bezel to adjust the temperature"

    Ground backing stuff hey?? or maybe the author of the beeb article is a memebr of the Amish community.

      You should have a look at what that thing actually does, the Nest thermostat is actually seriously good kit (especially v2). In the light of what it can do, I'm impressed that they kept the interface so simple that some people don't even realise the intelligence behind that device. Now *THAT* is UI design.

      For an intelligent programmable heating controller, yes that is pretty ground-breaking. Programming the bloody things in the past has typically involved a lot of MODE-SELECT-+-+-UP-ARROW-SET-MODE business.

      I'm re-doing my heating at the moment, the Nest isn't available outside the U.S and frankly there's nothing as nice over here.

      Oh please, do your research before you provide your evaluation of a product. The Nest thermostat learns your routine of when you are there or not. It is a lot more intelligent than anything else on the market.

      It's just a shame that the installation is such a pain.

    NEST Thermostat webpage - OMG!

    The NEST webpage (saving-energy, auto-schedule) shows the temperature of a house plunging from 72F to 57F between 8am and 9am. A fifteen degree drop in an hour!!! OMG!!!

    Hey - if you want to save energy, how about putting some insulation in those walls. Maybe close the front door during the depths of winter. Geesh...

    The more energy efficient your house (well insulated, larger thermal mass, solar gain), the less you'll be able to run the temperature up and down to save money. Also, the concept of heating zones becomes less effective if your house is very well insulated - it *starts* to become one big zone.

    It's still worth doing, but it's perhaps not the first hing to do.

      The Nest thermostats can also connect to climate control and air conditioning systems, not just the bog-standard gas boiler Brits are used to. If you look closely, you'll see the word "cooling" on some of the images, with a blue background.

      It has nothing to do with insulation, which is pretty common in US construction these days as nobody likes pissing money away.

        I wouldn't worry about it. The thermostat is linked with someone from Apple, so all of the Fandroid moronic masses are out in force complaining about how the device only has a dial and doesn't have 20 buttons, an FM radio and a media player. Oh and it doesn't have Flash player.
