back to article Upstart plans to reanimate cold dead corpse of holographic storage

Another holographic storage wannabee has popped up. Akonia Holographics has bought some of the assets of doomed holographic storage firm InPhase and moved into its old offices. Is this for real or just another 3D holo fantasy in waiting? Holographic storage is a minefield where technology companies invent ways of storing data …

    Completely Dead Duck

They need to read El Reg more. If they had done so they might have heard of something called memristor, which seemingly stands a good chance of coming to market next year.

If HP/Hynix can make them even only one tenth as good as they say they can then most other storage technology, including holographic, are pointless and will be ignored. Terabits on a single disk? Pah, HP have said they could scale to a petabit in 1cm^2. And run it at 1GHz.

Sounds like another bunch of physics wonks who have managed to persuade some gullible fool to part with cash.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the bit of the SD card spec that mandates FAT32 is going to have to go.

It's the storage techology of tomorrow.... and has been for twenty years

Cos, you know, it allows you to store information in the depth of the media. Unlike, say, a four-layer DVD. Wait, what?

(Same story, so same comment. Again.)
