Not really. For Sinofsky to do an Elop all he has to do is nip BB10 in the bud just like Elop successfully took out MeeGo (as well as Symbian).
BB10 has the potential to send Microsoft back to the drawing board if it takes off. Windows Phone 8 doesn't gain momentum, Windows 8 is written off by enterprise as another version to skip, sorry folks, we'll be back again in a few years.
To do an Elop is to shit all over the R&D of a respectable mobile company. That would be killing off BB10 and imposing the shit WP8 OS.
Except in BBs case, that wouldn't just stagnate them, it would kill them. RIM's remaining asset is actually their secure OS; while "Secure Windows" is an oxymoron even among the non-techies.

Since Elop is probably going to be out of a job by the end of 2013 as Nokia burns around him, Sinofsky could do worse than take a post in Finland to do a dustpan and brush job on the smouldering ashes.

Sounds idiotic, but like Nokia, Sony holds still a significant share on some product segments and is in need of someone that can break the mentality and culture that has stagnated Sony in the last decade.
Of course, Nokia was like that, only they choose a guy who only could see their former employer as the fix for all of their problems.

They could have made a winner Android phone on several occasions but they blew it. E.g. just stick 8GB internal storage in the Xperia U AND an microSD card slot and they WOULD sell! Really! But what do they do, they completeley ditch their excellent NXT design (which DID win hearts of the press except for its lack of internal storage and lack of microsdcard-slot). It's always the same with these shit corps. They compromise too much in their products so they can pay off their greedy CEO's and shareholders. Business ethics is COMPLETELEY wrong with EVERYONE!
The general opinion is that Sony tanked because the engineers didn't have to listen to the greedy CEO and shareholders.
Products were created without any consideration of what they would cost to build, what they would sell for and what the market wanted.
They created proprietry standards for everything because no salesperson could tell the engineers to use standard parts rather than invent their own "better" solution.
And every engineering group within Sony saw every other part of Sony as the main competition

I think you got completely that wrong. Nokia was a direct Microsoft competitor. Symbian was the biggest competition against Windows Mobile. In fact Sony(-Ericsson) was a former microsoft partner (Xperia X1 & X2)
As for another ex-MSFT employe inside RIM, please NOOOOOOOO! Isn't it suspicious that after Symbian defeated windows mobile as the premier smartphone os in the early 2000's an ex-microsoft employer is 'appointed' Nokia's CEO and single handedly decides that 'Symbian is a burning platform'. And then the 'press' is surprised that WE, normal folks, begin to talk about conspiracy.
Microsoft, their moles and their attidute have already destroyed too much good things! IMHO they should be stopped at ANY cost!

Mussolini, like everybody else in Italy, *thought* he was in command, while everybody under him was actively doing whatever they thought would have helped themselves best and just pretend to listen to their "leader" and obey. In Germany it worked, and that's why there it was far worse than in Italy.

As for Sinofsky - I think we need the perspective of history on this one: either he's bailing because he's seen the seawater in the bilge and knows Win8 is going to be a shipwreck, or he's been kicked out because MonkeyBoy thinks he is a threat, or he is being fitted for his own Wooden Equine Armor of Infiltration.
Elop is the most recent example of a Microsoft sleeper cell taking down a company from the inside. Anyone remember Ricky Belluzzo, formerly of HP? He's best remembered for trying to sabotage HPUX in the 90's by making an announcement to the press that HP was going to "dump HPUX and replace it with Windows NT" (this was in the NT 3.51 days so you know how utterly laughable that was). Cue damage control. Ricky then went on to destroy SGI from the inside by doing the same thing...getting rid of the highly regarded IRIX and replacing it with Windows NT. Cue SGI tanking. It wasn't long after that he was transported up to the mothership over at Microsoft.
Would RIM be stupid enough to bring in a Microsoftie? Of course they would. They've long been a "Microsoft shop" who have resisted every attempt to move their creaking infrastructure off of Windows boxes. (Oh aye, I do have an inside view of said Titanic). Of course, Sinofsky would probably do what every other Steve Barkto has done...dump QNX and try to shove WinMo in it's place. Cue the final sinking of the RIMtanic followed by the purchase of all assets by Microsoft.
Speaking of which...since RIM is part of Apple and Microsoft's "Rockstar Consortium," It would really be in Google's best interest to slurp up the quivering gibs of RIM's demise to put a stop to their "Consortium's" attempt to kill Android.

Now if you feel that I am satirising certain elements in this article and some of the attached postings you would be right. It is however IMHO not too far from an accurate synthesis of the contradictions in the arguments used, very often by the same "usual suspects" on many different occasions. I think that some of you guys better try a bit harder to avoid posting blatantly contradictory lines of argument on related threads.
The destruction of Symbian and Meego in Nokia is a win-win situation for microsoft.
Obviously in the unlikely event that WinPho captured most of the former Symbian market, the win is obvious.
However Android is a more logical step for Symbian fans, the other is to hold on to Symbian as long as possible and hope one of the Meego resurrection plans works.
The figure imply that those who have given up on Symbian have mostly gone to Android. Which is still a win for Microsoft, because of all the patent revenues.
Of course whether he was a Trojan or not is a matter for the Finnish Government to investigate. I would think Hanlon's Razor is probably worth remembering though.
Sinofsky's health may have tumbled. He's been on the go and in the forefront for a long-running stretch. It's possible he's just burned out. It's possible he's got enough money that he wants to enjoy some of his life with his family....
...or he might actually be fed up with being the target of non-stop criticism. People can say that you don't get to the position without being able to take it....but let's face it, it's entirely possible that it eventually did catch up with him...
....or maybe he just had an all-out with the other bosses at MS and was beaten out by an 'organisation reshuffle with a focus on xxx services' and he didn't want to change his entire playbook for someone else's ideals on where technology is and is going.
