back to article Japanese car nuts build racecars powered by shouting 'Brrrm! Brrrrrm!'

A team of Japanese car enthusiasts, backed by Nissan, have created a toy racetrack where cars speed along dependent on the driver's ability to imitate a V6 in full throttle. The "Voice Driver Cup" is a PR stunt promoting Nissan's new sports model, the Fair Lady 370Z, but involves Japanese developers making car noises into …

    Braking wind

"...we'd like to see players imitating the screech of breaks..."

Whilst both might lengthen your journey time, "breaks" are a job for the local garage. "Brakes" are the things that intentionally slow you down.

      Re: Braking wind

Depends on the age of the vehicle you are simulating... Break for brake seems to be a 19thC usage: you find it in historic reports of railway accidents for instance. Typos, on the other hand, are a familiar part of the human experience right back to theinvention of typography.

        @ JimC

That's not a typo. A typo is when you inadvertently type something you did not intend. Hence "typographical" and "error".

In this case, the incorrect word was deliberately chosen because the guy is a fool.

    How About Dog-Fights?

No, not the "woof, woof, grrrrrrr" kind, rather "ratta-tat-tat-tat-tat" and watch your opponent's Zero crash into the ocean. I can see it now, the Monty Python reenactment of the Battle of Midway.

    Is it just me?

Or Nissan have way way to much cash to burn? I think it is the single most idiotic usage of technology I have seen so far. Last time I did "vroom" with little cars I was around 5 years old. Is the new generation capable of some maturity? Now get off my lawn kids!

      Re: cash?!

So what's going to be more expensive, letting a handful of Moss types in a room play with a scalectrix set, two ipads and a soldering setup, or take real cars outside in a landscape to be filmed as usual from a helicopter as well as a truck? Come on, math is not that hard.

      Yes, it's you.

By Japanese standards, this is hardly childish.
