The now-defunct Beacon watched Facebookers as they shopped on affiliate websites and then displayed their purchases on their profile pages. Unfortunately, the social network …

"Justice"... gotta love the way that the legal system stands up for the little guy and makes sure that companies compensate those directly affected when they do wrong.

No No, you are confusing "Justice" and "Law", they have nothing to do with each other.

    Sick the lawyers on em

What we will have now is the plaintiffs sueing their own lawyers, with a whole new bunch of lawyers.

    Thus the cycle continues.

    "Substantial"

2 idiot judges outvote one sensible one? How the hell is $9,500,000 substantial punishment in the face of facebook's coffers?

They worked out what their stock was actually worth and awarded 99% of that value.

Theft is the more effective business model

The lawyers have just adopted the latest innovations from the modern economy: Socialised losses, Privatised profits, The legal system represents Profit, consequently blatant Looting, Fraud and Theft becomes without risk nor consequence (except meiningless numbers in off-shore accounts).

Gresham's law is the only law left!

    "Substantial"??

This deal was "substantial" for who?? Facebook and the Lawyers representing the plaintiffs. THAT is who this deal was substantial for. This didn't do not one "SUBSTANTIAL" thing for the plaintiffs. It made some lawyers richer though, and it appears that those lawyers didn't consult with their clients before accepting the deal, which in and of itself, is illegal, isn't it? Since when do lawyers have final say on what they CLIENTS WANT, as plaintiffs in a case? Lawyers.... HUMPH!!!

The American Legal System, the best legal system you can buy.

    The other 2 judges

pointed out the real role of the legal system is to make lawyers rich.

Punters are just there to be shafted.

So perhaps the plaintiffs should have been awarded a nominal sum for their inconvenience. Maybe say, the value of the goods exposed on their account.

    surprising

Quite surprising that the judges didn't award apple a few million in damages against the plaintiffs - after all someone here must have been infringing an apple patent somewhere
