back to article Pret-a-porter: LG boffins' bendy battery can be worn as PANTS

You can shrink them, make them skinny, or make them swallow more charges – but unless you're a Maker Faire type, you can’t actually wear a battery. Until now. Engineering and chemistry boffins working with LG Chem have devised a cable-like lithium-ion battery just a few millimetres in diameter – and flexible enough to be …

    One thing left

Since it's bendy and all, why not just go ahead and build in a recharging system that uses the bending to generate power? That way with the battery around your knee it would recharge while you jog and discharge on the bog for true compute anywhere power.

    How well does it cope...

with an hour in the washing machine at 40C with a dollop of Fairy Non-bio and some Vanish, followed by another hour in the tumble drier on low heat? Or could it perhaps have a special short-circuit option so that it can dry itself by discharging all in one go?

    UPS

Perhaps one day we could get a UPS that was just a slightly thicker than normal power cord. A couple CM in diameter, and six feet in length would provide a pretty reasonable volume for the battery itself. I suppose lithium isn't a good choice for a UPS though.

Maybe you could build an updated version of this into the body shell of a vehicle thus negating the need to have lumps of lead under the sub floor.Though it would need to have an extreemly long shelf life unlike the 5-10 years battery exchange rate on present vehicles.
