back to article VMware: Our monster will eat servers, belch clouds, excrete profit

The scribbled Monster VM logo that server virtualization and cloudy wannabe VMware started using last year as a joke may be the most appropriate and honest emblem that any IT vendor has pulled from its cosmic ether. Because VMware and its papa EMC want to do nothing less than gobble all of the hardware in your data center and …

No VMware, your monster will become niche like the mainframe as you keep the price high and the features have stopped coming. All the mucking around with licensing has started to drive people to Hyper-V and the price will keep people running away. You may have an easier to use product, but that's no longer an issue for most people.

Now that Hyper-V has caught up to ESX 3.5

      I see the big rush...

No, serious IT shops are still using VMware, high cost and all.

Features have stopped coming? What are you talking about?

    Features have stopped coming?

Hyper-V's features have been non-existant until recently with Server 2012.

Exactly... and all of those features and tools promised have yet to be released and won't be available until SP1...at least!

What you may not already know, for IT is Strictly Need to Know/Restricted TS/SCI in ESPecial Cases

"Six months after taking the VMware helm, he articulated his vision for VMware to Wall Street, and said his company was seeking to create was none other than a new kind of mainframe. …… reported by TPM/El Reg

How is that quest progressing, Timothy? Any word of a fabless breakthrough? Certainly its contemporary opposition/competition sees no evidence of their being able to clone an effective and successful working copy/Patently IP infringing clone of the Virtual AI Operating Systems' Dream Machinery ……. http://www.ur2die4.com/?page_id=644 ….. which is what they would need to better, in order to be able to spout realistically with any degree of credibility that they would be in a leading rather than struggling position in ITs Myriad Power of Command with Control of Worlds with Words Fields, which is what competition and/or opposition need to seed and feed in SMARTR IntelAIgent Shareware for CHAOSystems ….. Clouds Hosting Advanced Operating Systems.

But IT cannot hurt or destroy you in the designedly somewhat surreal and still quite alien virtualisation environment unless you thoroughly deserve its DEFT APT Dark Side Attentions which only the Fantastic Fool into the Further Drivering of a Fabulous Folly would bear bait and invite on themselves and their partners and sponsors.

"Back in 2008, we were asking ourselves what the hell it is," Maritz quipped when referring to the cloud. "And now we are asking ourselves how we can do it."

Should he really be saying things like that? After all their #1 competitor, Microsoft, have been-there, done-that and are have been selling the t-shirt since all the way back in 2008 and yet VMWare apparently still haven't got a clue how to do it.

Is their VMWare monster actually a dangerously-close-to-extinction dinosaur by any chance?

Why VMWare still wont convince cloud providers

There's an interesting post over at the 360 blog on why VMware just doesn't seem to "get cloud providers", and their business model, long and short: VMware want's to be a per-customer-tax (be it linked to vRAM, sockets, servers, or whatever) and cloud providers cant countenance their pricing or their pricing model while there are viable alternatives on the market:
