    XtremIO sales?

    Being a silo, will XtremIO be sold by a separate EMC division (like Isilon) or within their "standard" storage offerring.

    Leading the way

    EMC was the first company using SSD (EFD) disks in an enterprise storage system, the first to deploy server-side storage cache and obviously is again leading the way in this arena.

      Actually, any number of companies were using server side cache well before (2+years) EMC announce their intention to get involved. Also there were, and still are many all flash players out there waiting to be snapped up.         Any number of companies... many flash players... (please provide some SERIOUS examples) It seems there's a lot of people doing things... but the REAL (not imaginary, in your mind) players (IBM, HP, Netapp, HDS...) are adopting technologies EMC was the first to introduce at enterprise level. Please review timelines and DCs

          HP & IBM signed up with Fusion I/O in 2008, well before EMC announced server based flash. Although to be honest your mates at Dell, Cisco and Netapp have only recently signed up.

            Of course HP and IBM (as well other big companies) have agreements with a lot of different technology partners. But this is like Gartners' quadrant: I won't discuss IBM, EMC, HP, HDS, Netapp "visionary" hability but a different thing is "execution" ability.

            In this case, EMC is not signing an agreement to adopt or certify a given technology. This storage manufacturer is covering the entire solution (end to end) with its own designs / technology, bringing and integrating all components together. I understand this is the point to get customers' confidence.

              (please provide some SERIOUS examples) of EMC's execution using these OEM'd PCI-E controllers. The hardware's all done and dusted, the clever stuff is in the software and all the large storage vendors are working on that, but it aint ready yet so there isn't much to execute on othe rthan marketing.
