back to article Apple deal points to NFC iPhone - eventually

SEC filings from Apple-acquisition AuthenTec state that fingerprint and secure-element technology is coming to Apple devices, and soon, but it still might be too early to call the NFC iPhone, and probably wrong to imagine the pay-by-bonk tech will use digit-scanning for authentication. Meh

I do a lot of outdoor work and have had problems with fingerprint scanners in the past, my old Dell XPS had it, luckily it recognised all my finger prints, but sometimes three of four on my right hand would not scan.

Personally I will stick with passwords.

Imagine the good old USA getting hold of a world fingerprint database?

    Makes me shudder

Department of Home Security "we want the fingerprint database please!"

      Apple, "ok here you go."

Of course you have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide!

Before Apple get the patent in for fingerprint unlock, can I just point out the iPaq 5450.

      Re: Patent

Of course you may, were you expecting it to have an impact on the USPO?

Grrrrrr.....El Reg, PLEASE put an edit option onto posts.....should have spelt out Patent Office to prevent any confusion with Post Office, not that any commenters would deliberately misunderstand of course.

        Yeah right.

I say it will have NFC

and I BET you it will be "revolutionary" and every 'tard out there will think Apple invented it. Which is fine with me, as it will mean more stuff to tap-pair with for my Nokia N9. Unless suddenly you need an iPhone app for all things NFC as you need for everything else these days. People are to damn lazy.

It is trivially easy to get a copy of someone's thumbprint

"Oops, I dropped my shopping. Can you hold this drink can for me while I pick it up? Ta."

Western Australian police have form in using forged fingerprints:

    Secure? I don't think so.

    Apple road map

    iphone 5 - bigger screen

    iphone 6 - NFC

    iphone 7 - haptic feedback

iphone 8 - 3D (or maybe laser) screen

    Reasons to upgrade.
