back to article Boffins: We are VAPORISING the Earth... for science

A group of scientists have been practising blowing the Earth into smithereens. Planet imploding Whooooooooomph.... BOOM! The astroboffins, who claim they are doing it for scientific reasons, have used a computer simulation to vaporise our home planet. "We scientists are not content just to talk about vaporising the Earth …

Yeah, apart from the 'Muahahahahaaa' each time it happens.

    Only *partially* vaporised?

Where is earth-shattering kaboom? I wanted earth-shattering kaboom!

This simple soul thinks that an exoplanet that is completely vapourised isn't a planet at all... and might be tricky for astronomers to locate at the present state of the art.

    If a second interview

with Prof. Bruce Fegley, ends with the sentence "and now witness the power of this fully operational etc etc".

We will only have ourselves to blame.

    Well well...

An article title that (for once) is exactly what it says on the tin. Vaporize as in heat enough the planet up so that everything boils rather than the "classic" definition favored by ol' Marvin the Martian.

    Good article ruined...

    ...by the completely irrelevant picture.

As much as I'd like to see a proper simulation of a planet imploding as a result of a singularity being introduced at the centre, this has nothing to do with the research being reported.
